wheel/tire insurance a good move?
Just got a 335i with sport. Came with the 18" 287 style rims. I opted out of the $600 wheel insurance. I live in New England with tons of potholes and I'm worrying that I made a mistake. The runflats sound like they're coming through the car when I hit a bump. What are people's experience? Can I get the insurance retroactively?

Good move... I wish I would've opt'd out.. Well especially when your mod-ing it out...
Waste of money unless you keep the stock wheels on. |

However I bent one of my aftermarket rims last year and filed through the wheel & tire insurance on my own; filed the claim in April, didn't receive the cheque until January this year.

I'm probably keeping the Stock rims and tires, except for the snows I'll be buying. So if you stay stock, does that make it make more sense?
These tires are so insanely loud when I tag a pothole. Puts the fear of God in me... |

Yes, only worth in the event you intend on staying stock, or continued use of stock wheels in between seasons..

I got the tire/wheel insurance as well. I did my research on the forum about the RFTs prior and it led me to believe that the RFTs are super fragile. So far for me, I haven't gotten any bubbles or nails, and I've hit some pretty big potholes...
If I had to do it over again I would have opted NOT to get the insurance, as the RFTs are expensive to replace, AND they don't perform as well non-RFTs. |

Got a notice in the mail from some official bankruptcy department. Certified govt mail. It said that a company I am involved with has filed for bankruptcy. As the process goes I get more info about the company, which I have never heard of. They have been bought out and the new company is handling old claims blah blah blah. I finally just got confused and did some research. It turns out that BMW outsourced my wheel and tire insurance. I do not know if all are or just my dealership, or just mine. That is what it came back as. So more or less I ate the cash because the company they outsourced went bankrupt.

"BMW" does not do wheel and tire insurance at all. Each dealership is a reseller for whichever company/policy they want to work with. This is why you'll see wildly varying costs and coverages in different discussions around here.
