My Volks got damaged by tire shop, any recourse?
As some of you may know I was trying to sell my Volk RE30 wheels. I have had them 6 months and they were immaculate, not a scratch on them. I took them to a shop to have the tires put on my old wheels so I could clean them up and ship them. Apparently during the removal of the tires they messed up 3 out of 4 wheels. It is in the same spot on all three, and it can not possibly be due to curb rash because there are marlks on the inside of the wheel where the air form the tire would be. It is obvioulsy fromsome type of tool they use. The wheels wqere perfect gooing in and still are (other than the one spot on each wheel). I would normally leave it go but I am pissed. I did my best to take care of them and keep them clean and without damage and then someone else comes along and fu*ks them up after they were sold. I can not afford to reducve the price to cover the damage, and I do not want them repaired because they were notr repaired when they got them.
Anone that knows wheels knows volks are not cheap. At around $900 per wheel I do not think I should have to settle for repaired by their "wheel guy".Dont these places have insurance to cover things like this? Would like to know if anyone had similar experiences and what happened or what you think I should do. And please no comments on the brand, i dont need the ricer BS right now. Thanks

I would have the shop pay for 100% of the cost to get new Volks. If the tire shop isn't capable of putting tires on your wheels (and it's a wheel and tire shop) then they certainly shouldn't be touching a wheel that's nearly $1000 a wheel.
I hope that that gets all figured out soon, that doesn't look like fun. |

I would imagine the only thing you can do is file a small claims case and take them to court.

i'd say take it to someone u kno that can do wheel repairs, thank god we hav son tran in socal to repair any curbs we end up having. but as far as ur situation, take ur wheels to someone reputable that can repair it, get the quote, and tell them that u wanna get it done here for the damages done and hav them pay u bak for gettin it repaired.
if that fails, small claims case like paulbailey said is seriously ur best bet

Wow, what idiots though. After they fucked up the first wheel, or even the first 2. . . They should have stopped right there and said, "Sorry man, we're fucking up FTL right now, you might want to take this somewhere else."
I sure hope you didn't pay them shit for what they did do for you. |

the tire shop should have turned you down when they saw the wheels.
and pointed you out to a specialty shop that can do the job. if they don't have the right machine to for these wheels that's what can happen. straight up go to the manager and say WTF. what's the name of the shop?

This happened to me back in the day when I had to have my tires replaced on a set of OEM wheels. Speak to the manager of the shop, it happens once in a while when a poorly trained tech sets the bead improperly on the tire mounting machine.
My shop paid to have my wheel repaired. |

Thanks for all you responses. I am going back tomorrow morning to show thenm the damage and talk to them. They said they woud fix them, but as you all know, it is never the same, and I am worried abnouit the one gouge being on the lip where the bead should seal.
does anyone know if that diamond cut lip can be fixed. It is like brushed but in a single direction.

Ouch!! That sucks. I know this shit happens. They are clueless and instead of saying we can't do those, they try anyway and F it up.
I recently went to swap my winter Blizzarks for my OEM sport wheels at the local Mr Tire shop. It was a simple take wheel off, put another on, just the bolts, no messing with tires etc. As you all know the ZSP comes staggered. The damn shop monted one 255/35/18 upfront on one side and on the other side mounted the 225/40/18 upfront. Oh they said it will be 10 minutes wait here please we charge 12.50 for tire rotation so same charge. 2hrs later I was still waiting. Didn't say a word. Manager comes out hands me the keys and says, sorry sir for the screw up, I am waiving the charge, we honor our promise at Mr Tire, and I don't think customer should pay for this tardy work! I wanted to pay anyway, but he insisted it really was ok. I walk out and just happen to look at the car and was like WTF? Car was weird, hard to even steer. I just went home, took out the jack, one of my winters to rotate with and did the job myself. Tire experts my ass! You gotta wonder WTF they are doing working on people's cars yet they f'up the simplest most obvious shit. Ever heard of tire size? Mr Tire...

I had a set of RGII's in bright chrome on my S2K. Discount Tire damaged one wheel. When I pointed it out, they initially tried to deny it being their fault until they saw the damage inside the wheel, kinda like your situation.
Anyways, they DO have insurance, and they ended up calling Mackin and getting me a new wheel shipped to me. I had the option for cash or the wheel, but coming across an Advan RGII in bright chome was never gonna happen, so I just waited. Luckily Mackin had one sitting around so the wait was not so long. Kinda similar story through a Bridgestone dealer. I got a new set of tires put on my truck. They damaged one of the TPMS sensors. Toyota doesn't use the same type of sensors that are sold at AutoZone and the like, so the shop ended up buying me a new one through their insurance with Toyota. Get them to buy you a new set, they're covered by insurance, like most shops should be. Don't let them try to get away with some half ass job by a quick repair. |

getting the shop to pay for the wheels would be the ideal situation but i doubt they'd cough up the money to pay for all 3 wheels that they damaged. your best bet is just to accept their offer on the fix. there's nothing much you can do when it comes to situations like this.
