door pilar removal...help
Ok, I give in to the sound that is coming from my seat belt right above my ear. There is a SIB for it and I want to fix it myself but I cannot remove the interior upper door pilar cover. Any BMW techie here like to chime in and show me how to take that out so I can use the SIB to fix this noise. Or did anyone here took out this piece before please help. Thanks everyone and thanks paul330d for his image.

The bottom panel must be removed first. Pulling on the bottom part of the bottom panel will release them. Then pull on the bottom part of the upper panel to release the rest of the clips.
I fought with that ticking noise for weeks. Then one day on a bumpy road it was ticking constantly. For one reason or another, I leaned on the door armrest and the noise went away. Problem solved, the door striker was not pulling the door against the seals with enough pressure. I moved the striker further inward on the car. NO MORE TICKING! I figure the noise was transmitted up the B pillar and out the hole where the seat belt comes through(by your left ear). Hope this helps! |

it is the notorious metallic clicking noise from your seat belt support harness. If you don't hear it, you are lucky. If you hear a noise coming from your left ear as you drive, it could be the seatbelt support harness. Read this for more detail and take it to shop to fix. Don't worry about the striker plate, it has zero connection to the seatbelt harness so don't waste your time with the plate.

I know this is ages old but this problem drove me insane. I had tried everything, literally....BMW main dealer even had it for a day with zero results. Thought it worth re-raising as there must be numerous people searching for door seal creaks etc. that will obviously not correct this hideously annoying, (but very simple to fix), problem. I am looking to possibly exchange the car but it's very satisfying not having to put up with the constant clicking in the meantime.
