Question Question for M-DCT owners WITHOUT iDrive

Have you been able to default your shifts lights to stay ON???

I can turn mine on, but the next time I start the car they are back to OFF.

Yep, this is a bug that was introduced with the same PROGMAN update that fixed the shift lag. Before that update, my shift light setting was remembered permanently.

I don't really care for the shift lights, so it hasn't really been a high priority for me. Next time the car is in for service I will probably mention it.

I just got the update and noticed this yesterday. What lag are you referring to? The most recent low speed lag or the shift lag?

That's why the shift lights never go on. I didn't realize you had to do it each time you turn on the car.

Clearer now?

I've only had the earliest update, the one from last year. Haven't gotten the latest one yet. I am waiting to make sure a) it fixes the problem and b) it is out long enough for the dealership to understand what it does so I don't have to try and play the "please flash my firmware" game.

Thanks for the clarification.

I am still waiting for the dealer to tell me what version was flashed in last week. If it's the latest, it looks like the shift lights stay off...

I consider this a bug also. The shift light setting should be set to the key just like all the other settings!

UPDATE!

I just got an email from the shop foreman at my dealer stating that he came across a bulletin regarding the shift lights not staying permanently active. The bulletin states that a software revision is being developed to correct the issue with no ETA.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Thanks for the update, mikewads. I will probably wait until the next DCT update is out to get this addressed, if it happens to arrive sooner. Maybe they'll both arrive in the same update and then I won't have to plead with the dealership to get the update since the shift-light thing is very easy to demonstrate..

I emailed him this morning. Here is his response:

"Haven't heard anything so far. The bulletin still says the same as before, "do not replace any parts, the bulletin will be updated as soon as a software solution is available". I also have not received any ISTA/P (programming software) from BMW lately. Our ISTA (diagnosis software) has been majorly messed up over the last month and they have been sending me new updates for that weekly. I'm sure most of their attention is going towards fixing the diagnostic software at the current time."
