IPOD connections

Hi all:

I've done some searches but am still a bit confused.

I am wondering what options I have for connecting an IPOD mini to my car that has no Idrive/ logic 7/ or any other nav/techno shiznit..

Just a 330i ZSP 6 sp ...more concerned with the car than the toys...but hooking up ipod is nice.

Thanks in advance...

I think your only option is the AUX port in the center armrest console. That's the only option anyone has at this point (even if they have idrive/logic 7, etc..) for the IPOD.

This is for the E46, the former 3-series model.
There hasn't been released a similar kit for the E90, so far.

I'm pretty darned happy - I bought a 12V adapter and a small RF remote control for my 3G Ipod, plus a mini male to mini male stereo patch cable. All the wires and the Ipod itself get tucked into the armrest, it's down and latched, and I can still shuffle to my heart's content.

Audio quality is great. One thing that this has really brought home is that I have a lot of poorly encoded MP3s that sound fine with the headphones and not-so-fine in the car.

After struggling with the user interface on the sat radio, I'm not thinking that any sort of BMW-Apple integration would be all that great anyways.

What hermanh posted might be describing what E90fleet has described the integrated IPOD system as in this thread:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2347

Can anyone read that German PDF and see if it's what e90fleet said?

Good News

That PDF basically says that the IPOD will be available for the E90. It says that the IPOD interface is "In Vorbereitung." Which translates to "being under way". Yeah BMW!!!

I hate to call BMW everyweek to check availability for the iPod connector. Does anyone have any ETA of this kit? one month? six months?

hooked up my 40GB 4th Generation ipod right into the AUX armrest and the extension wire is pretty long and sounds great.
14.00 USD can't go wrong with it!

Ipod is now available for E90. Original BMW product, 269 Euro in Germany. But this is only for the radio's without navigation, bluetooth and CD-changer. The adapter for the navigation systems is still in development.

FANTASTIC!

Do you have a link to where I can buy it or any pics of it in action? I am in the UK.

The link in the post above mine looks to be for an E46.

http://members.lycos.nl/bananenboom/E90/2005_MP3.pdf

And it stands in the September pricelist from the E90, but there is no partnumber in the pricelist.

So, it looks like SatNavPro owners will have mp3 capability from September build, on both their main CD player & on the CD changer, if they have it.

Nice work Bananenboom.

Bananenboom Please help me out here, I don't understand German but if I figured it right the E90 with business radio and multifunctions in the steering wheel can now control the Ipod and/or Ipod Mini that is connected to the Aux-in port? Do I need a special connector or will a basic 3.5mm <-> 3.5mm cable work? If so, great news! Then I would only need the Ipod and a basic audio cable.

You'll need the iPod integration kit to control it from the steering wheel. The Aux-in port will only allow you to play from another device (cd player, mp3 player, etc).

No, it is not possible to control your iPod through the Aux-in. In the diagram stands that the iPod-interface is available at the moment for the business radio (without navigation). The iPod-interface costs 269 Euro. This interface will be connected to your radio, so the installadion of the CD-changer isn't possible anymore. You can't install it if you have bluetooth.

To be able to control your Ipod via steering wheel you need a 269€ kit. Thats an insane price.
