2007 X3 lifter noise

My wife's 2007 X3 has 26,600 miles and I hear what sounds like lifter noise. It is pretty dramatic. Oil was just changed by BMW dealer. Any cosmic thoughts? Thanks

My wife's 2008 X3 3.0si also encounters the same lifter noise. It only occurs occasionally.

I found something similiar over on the e90post forum. It seems like the non-turbo e90 3 series cars experience a similiar lifter noise.

Check the thread at the below link. Apparently there is a process to bleed air pockets out of the lifters.

there's a "ticking" problem that's common to these engines. take the car to the dealership and have them check it out. in some cases, the dealers have had to replace the cylinder heads because of the problem, but i don't know what the exact problem is, so i'll need to research this a little more.

a little distressing, considering i've got two N52 engines in the family!

here, i did a little more research. it appears the problem is coming from insufficient oil getting to the lifters.

here's the factory recommended service procedure - https://wiki.bentleypublishers.com/d...se+from+Engine

it appears the testing procedure is to rev the engine and check for noise, after the engine is warm. it appears it's a short trip/cold starts.

ya, i recently noticed that ticking noise on my x3 2008. I bought it only two months ago.. its a demo car.. still.. its sort of new.. took it to dealer yesterday..said its 'not unusual'.. if it gets louder..then come back.. I'm not very happy with the answer. I read e90's similar problem.. and I"m definitely going back.. have them recheck..

Mike Miller addressed N52 valve rattle in Bimmer Magazine a month or so ago.

Apparently it's most common on low revved automatics. I have a MT and typically shift at 4k and pick a gear that keeps my rpm's around 3K when up and running.

I did experience it once when I moved it out of the garage to wash it and back in without full engine warm-up. The next morning it rattled like hell for awhile. Now I never start it without running it up to full temp.

Mine went away after a year or so.

It does not breed confidence, that is for damn sure.
