2010 X3 or 2009 Q5 or 2010 Q5?

Friends, I have been a BMW faithful fan/owner for 18 years now (2001 318is, 1995 M3, 2001 X5 3.0) – as you see, my car needs changed with my age!
My X5 has a Sports Package, is a looker, and has never given me major trouble – that said, I treat my cars like jewels.
I now have had it for 8 years, the most time I’ve ever owned a car by far, and I my only concern is that it’s lifespan is coming to an eventual end (or at least its value will be exponentially decreasing from now on).
In researching yesterday, I read that the 2010 X3 will be quite redesigned (will look like the current X5 but with dimensions similar to my X5, ie, a little smaller than the current X5).
Earlier this spring, I had decided to wait until next summer (2010) to change my car. Then the long-awaited Audi Q5 came around and I am considering it for now, also because this is the year to get5 deals on cars.
My question are: do you think it is worth me waiting a few months (or even a year) to see the 2010 X3 and possibly trade for that car, or, should I go for the Q5 now, or should I wait for next summer and choose between the X3 and the Q5 then, with the Q5 having more time under its belt….?
The point being: the current X5, size and cost, is too much for me, so the Q5 and apparently the 2010 X3 do fit me better…
Thanks.

We have had 3 X3's, starting with MY 2004. For our needs, as the X3 has more interior space than the X5, the dogs fit fine. We have had many BMW's: M cars, 3 series and the handling of the X3 is certainly the best of the SUV's (also owned GM and Chrysler SUV's). Currently we are waiting for the specifications on the X3 to be released for MY 2010. We will be ordering a twin turbo when it becomes available with the new nav system. We have both in our 335ix and the options are worth every farthing. Look at the information on line for the 2010 X3, it is due within one year and should reset the bar for SUV's.

from what's been released, it's not looking like a 2010 X3, but a 2011 X3, so that may affect you. if i were in your seat, i would lease a Q5, and when it's up, go for an X3.

Thanks guys. I am leaning towards waiting for a year and seeing what the X3 will look like and when it will be available. That will also give the Q5 (dare I say so) time on the market and I'd have a better idea of what that is like. I will likely stick to my current X5 in the meantime.

The only Q5 I am considering is one that would have the S-line package, which simply transforms its looks....That said, it would be beneficial to see one in person, rather than just see what it may look like on a website or on a brochure...
