Looks like I'm off too!!!

In a moment of generosity (or should that be stupidity?) I'm getting out of the Beemer to assist a colleague with a lease that he needs out of.

His wife has decided the family needs a dog - neither their CL55 or SLK 280 are up to the job of carrying a slobbering Labrador, so he's ordered a new Range Rover sport which arrives in approximately a week.

On this basis I am about to inherit a 12 month old/8k mile SLK 280 sport with all the trimmings.

I know it seems a (potentially) backwards move, but there is method to my madness - I haven't had a convertible for nigh-on 15 years and this will allow me to exoricse my mk3 escort cabriolet (with RS turbo lump) shaped demons.

It will give me a nice convertible for the summer and no doubt the missus will like driving it more than the be-em.

Plus, when the time comes for the SLK to go back I will have paid a pennance and thus will be owed a big favour - which should allow me to realise my dream of having a brand new 911 next.

Please feel free to fire off the hairdresser jokes now, I'm ready and waiting...

My mum got a job as the Queen's hairdresser. She parked outside Buckingham Palace and a policeman said to her "Have you got a permit?"

"No," she replied "I've just got to take a bit off the back."

Seriously tho mate, hope we will still see you about!

You will enjoy that Merc in the (promised) scorching summer and if it 'assists' you in your 911 quest then go for it

Enjoy your new toy

Sheps, we're following a similar route. I've just given the missus my 330d and I've bought a year old 350Z Roadster for an absolute steal (I think!!). Really wanted a 911 but the one's I could afford were rubbish so canned the idea for 12-18 months and will revisit it later when, hopefully, I can afford a proper one. Gets delivered a week on Tuesday as I'm on my jollies in Wales all of next week. Roll on the summer...

Si its a shame. But great things come to a end....saying that my love affair is over soon too one suspects.

Ive close to ordering a new max loaded 730D as its a company fully paid up purchase.

Not sure what to do with the e92 either.I got no finance or owe sod all on it and its not being used hardly now,but realistically its a fantastic car but will go to help surpress the relentless shopping of the wife lol.

Ill pop back here and there...but i looks like game over for me too soon.

Maybe if you had would you be getting rid of the E92 now,

The SLK is the 280 - V6 lump with about 230bhp, so it's horses for courses, performance-wise. 0-60in low 6's, limited to 155 so very similar to the 325i.

It's got the 7 speed auto box, so going faster will be easier without having to change down - just mash the pedal or flick the paddle and go.

The main attraction is the folding metal roof to be honest - hopefully giving the best of both worlds.

You're right in what you say though, if I had been driving a 335i/d or M powered car there's no way I'd be getting rid.

Here's a few pics:

Once I've been round to f*ck your mum over the bonnet I'll ask her what she thinks.

I'm not a great fan of the SLK (it's that folding hardtop lol but I don't suppose you see that when the roof is down!)

Looks rather good in black though (they all seem to be silver round here).

Have fun

Smaller fun car, roof down for the summer, how can you go wrong. If you don't need back seats enjoy the roadster experience. I followed one last yr with the same engine - had a good exhaust note.

Look forward to seeing it at Goodwood in next week.
