Need Help with Orbital/Pads

Hello Everyone!!

I want to purchase an orbital, however I have never used one in my life. I am afraid of burning the paint. However, I have done some research online and need your advice. The Porter Cable 7424 Dual-Action Car Polisher comes very highly recommended. However, I think it is being discontinued as per Grainger's website (http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/items/4YU14). I went on PC's site and saw two different models (http://www.deltaportercable.com/Prod...80&Prod2=11081) does anyone know the difference? They seem to be the identical machine in relation to specifications.

If I was to purchase one of these machines, what kinds of pads would I want to purchase as well? I use all of Zaino's polishes but I may look into other vendors. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

I use Zaino and it's not really a polish but a sealant. ZAIO and ZPC do not really offer any cut for paint correction. It's a great sealant.

looks like the two PCs come with different attachments and they're essentially the same thing. I would get the PC kit from DI as zaxjax suggested. you can get a bunch of different pads from DI, just specify which ones you want. as for cutting/paint correction, most people on here use menzerna. i use the poorboys line and it works fine for me because you can use it in the sun. i dont have a garage although i do my detailing in the shade.

here is the kit I would recommend:

The Uber Menzerna PO203 and PO85RD kit

the base PC Kit

you probably need a wax to go with that.

Swissvax Blau Weiss
Swissvax Glacier
or Lusso Oro

for your last step.

For biginner, i'll recommand "Griot's Garage" Random Orbital with orange and red pad. The pads are from lake country but with Griot's name.

Can't never go wrong.

The different colors of pads differentiate their hardness and/or ability to "cut" the paint. You attempt to pair different waxes, sealants, glazes and compounds with the corresponding pads to achieve the results you want.

different pads equal different cuts and finishing levels.

our uber pad system is easy it has the step printed on the back of the pad.

most people will use liquids and sealants with a black pad with their orbitals.

as far as zaino I believe 9 can be used as well as a couple of their polishes.

i don't know the full line up its been years since I have touched the stuff.

I apply sealant with a blue pad on setting 3 on a PC. I apply soft wax by hand with a red pad.
