Rear Fog Lights

The rear fog lights on US cars can be enabled by simply installing the Euro light switch. I did it today on my 330i.

it uses the same lamps as the adaptive brake lights so the look is the same. also, when they are on it overides adaptive brake lights...so says the manual.

if there is enough interest I may do a DIY with pictures.

That's quite cheap . So basically you lose the adaptive braking lights, right? Fair trade off, I think.

This pic of a RHD euro spec 320i at my local dealer in MD, clearly shows the nice amber turn signal, a lot pf pics normally don't as its quite subtle.

I don't get it. The rear fog light is the light just below the reverse light right? US spec don't have that / cannot turn it on?

The light switch (part no. 6131 6 932 796) replaces the light switch assembly next to the door.
The actual switch that controls the fog light will be below the front fog light switch.

The rear fog light when ON will use the same bulbs (left and right) that are used by the adaptive brake lights.
When the fog light is OFF, the adaptive brake lights are available.

Only in extremely foggy areas when you can only see less than 100 meters in front of you. At least that is the regulation here in England. I'm not sure how many states require a rear foglight, probably none, so it isn't defined in the motor vehicle regulations. How you use them in the states is up to you but be aware that a rear fog light used improperly will confuse the already confused driver behind you and will make you actual brakes lights less visible.

If you have a rear fog light and a vehicle comes up behind you, you should turn off the light out of courtesy; you wouldn't want to follow behind someone with bright red lights anymore than the other driver.

Quite frankly, I don't know exactly how difficult it is because the switch had to be changed before I could collect my car and was done at the dealership. However, the dash light is already there and the bulbs in the light unit in the trunk lid are already there -- they're the adaptive brake lights. The only difficult bit is getting the original light switch out of the dash without damaging the trimwork. From there I'm sure it is plug-and-light.

I see no point in getting this feature here in the states that would potentially cause harm to other drivers. Explain that in court when they send you up the river for involuntary manslaughter.
