I have had two jet black bmw's and they are pain to keep clean... don't get me wrong, they look absolutely superb when clean and still good when dirty, but my god it is pain to look at all those swirl marks which you will get so easily. Metallic is much more easier to your blood pressure
No more non metallic for me... or maybe I will try my luck with white http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=104346 |

IMHO Metallic Sapphire Black has more character than Jet Back. In bright sunlight looks dazzling up close, looks midnight blue from a distance. Under clouds or at night it reflects light like a gem. Neighbors have commented on the beauty of the color. Wife liked it so much on my car, she got her car in Sapphire Black.

I just ordered a Jet Black Z after switching colors 4 times. Now I'm concerned about the swirls...of course a bit too late to change as production starts in about 20 days and I'm not about to give my dealer a stroke by changing colors again. I love the Jet Black, but what steps should I take to avoid (as best as I can) the dreaded swirls? And if I get the swirls, how to fix them?

I think this is way to important to be afraid of yet another change. Just my two cents. |

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Jet Black...but I thought of the swirls a little too late. I appreciate the input all the same and thanks for the links too. I currently am stationed in Germany, so hand-washing the car is "verboten"...so that leaves auto washes (with the slapping, dirty, rock carrying cloth things), or a state-side style power washer set up. these are my options. You all think the power washer thing will mitigate the swirls?

I went a full year without taking my car to a car wash, and had no visible swirl marks. First time I took it to the local "hand wash" it came away with swirl marks. The problem is with the the method they use to get the soap onto the paintwork - they're using the same dirty sheepskin from one car to the next, and with the method they use to dry the car.
