Teenagers writing symbols on hands?

My niece has a symbol written on her hand. It looks like a JH with the letters together or something. Her older brother told me it means how far she will go. (I can't tell how serious he was, because he was teasing her.) This is VERY disturbing to me for obvious reasons; she is only 13.

Does anyone know about teenagers writing symbols with marker on their hands? I remember when I was in high school some "straight edge" guys did the X, but that's all I remember.

I tried googling it and didn't find anything.

(And let's try to keep the pedophile jokes to a minimum, thanks!)

wtf???! this is for real?? they had something like this once on the george lopez show but instead of symbols it was different colored bracelets. wow....

ohh yea, they recorded that movie at the middle school that i used to go to. most of it isn't even real, even kids in high school don't do some crazy shit like that.

I am honored! I was just harrassing the poor guy though, I haven't been within 400 yards of a middle school in years. JH is probably some boy she has a crush on, or maybe it means she gets high on jenkum? Or it could be some class pride as in junior high, have their been any recent tug-of-wars with the high school?
