It's the rubber seal around the door? I had problems with the seal around my driver's side door and the dealership replaced it under warranty. In your case I assume it should be covered as well.

I'm not sure exactly how it happened. I was getting in my car one day and noticed the rubber seal sagging a bit. And it continued to get worse so I called the dealership and it was replaced.

However I didn't have the hole/ tear that you have on your car.

hahahah props to me for finding the rubber!!! I am not sure if it is covered since they might say you did the damage to it. I am pretty sure something snagged it.

Looks to me like accidental damage - so would not be covered by warranty.

Only way this would be covered was if the seal had failed due to weathering. If this was possible it would be a common problem and hence widely known to BMW dealers.

Why? It looks, as others here observed, like something caught it. If something made a hole in the sheetmetal or window, would you also say the dealer should cover it under the warranty?

I am not saying they will cover everything. It depends on the situtation and the item that is damaged. In this case, that seal is chump change (i don't know about labor). I think in this case, dealer will no doubt replace it and it give them a happy customer which could result in better sales in future. Windshield, no way.

Its really up to the dealer if they decide to warranty it or not. Be super nice when you ask about it.

Heh..I learned this early on. If you are good to your service advisor, they almost always take care of you when they can.

Good luck 18LLC, let us know how it turns out.

I had a really big gash in the driver side seal and I asked them to replace it and they said that they wouldn't because it looks like wear and tear and they don't cover that. So, since my dad knows some guys at the dealership really well, I told him to get the job done and he pulled some strings and made the service guy order it for me for free. So, my point is that, they might dismiss it as wear and tear but if u are persistent and pretend to be unhappy/pissed, they will order u a new one
