Oil Filter Cap: Hand Tightened After Replacing Filter

I decided to replace the oil filter on my new 330i after the break-in period, (1600 miles).

Question - I only hand tightened the oil filter cap, but good news: it does not leak. Should I be concerned that I did not torque it to the required 25Nm (18.425ftlbs) setting and only hand-tightened it?

TIA.

you should get a wrench on it,

you may be able to get a strap wrench on it if you don't want to buy a special tool just for the cap

Unless you're the incredible hulk I don't think you're able to screw it down as much as it needs to be.

you're probably OK short term, but I'd advise that you tighten it down soon

If you can pull it off by hand then tightening by hand should work.

I got mine off by hand and tightened it back down by hand as well (i screwed it on as far as it would go actually). 25Nm is only about 18 ftlb anyway. Haven't noticed any seepage of oil in the 4k mi since that oil change (knock wood).

I have done two oil changes with only hand tighting it, and no leaks, the rubber gasket seals it tight.

I actually found a green (paint/marker?) mark in the cap and housing that lines up to show how tight is was from the factory. Does anyone else have this?

It took a slight turn with the strap wrench to get the marks to line up. It was slightly tighter than I could get it by hand, but that is where I left it.

I did not notice any green mark on my oil filter casing.

Here is a photo of the mark that was on the cap and housing.

My production was 4/06.

I've got the green mark too. Thought it was a great idea. Hand loosen and tighten for me worked perfectly.
