When I picked-up the new car 5 weeks ago, the service interval indicator was displaying 25,000kms till service time. In the last couple of weeks the indicator is displaying 28,000kms till service time.

Has anyone else witnessed the same thing?

my car showed 16,000 miles till service (maybe service at 16,000 miles??)
when I picked it up, and 1000 miles later it still shows the same

The mileage-till-service indicator takes into factor how hard you are driving and if maintainence is required sooner or later. If you drive at redline all day, the mileage-till-service will drop like a rock.

You're just not driving it hard enough

all my previous cars would give me a precise number, like 8732
My 3 just says 15000

Well didn't your other cars just simply have a backwards counting odometer? Where as the E90 "computes" the distance between services by many factors including how you drive the car.

Mine started out at 15,000 miles, and now is reading 14,000 miles. I must be driving pretty hard. Have about 3,500 miles on it now.

The 15,000 (or 14,000) is the mileage that the car will need to be at when you bring it in for service. It does not count down. When your mileage matches the service indicator mileage, your car will alert you that it is time to come in for service.

yeah, I've only got about 2500 miles and it just dropped to 15000, mine started at 16000.

I really drive it pretty easy since it's a 325 and the power doesn't really seem to get that much stronger above 5 grand so I rarely rev it past that

Mine started at 25000km..... I have done 2200 km now, and at startup it says I still have 25000km.... I guess I'm pretty easy on it... well, I've hit 6500rpm a few times already... but I guess that's not often enough...

We'll see how it goes, but I have a feeling the kilometres to service are going to start dropping like crazy, because that's what used to happen in my E46... which I redlined often.

My E46 counts down the kms until I need to service it.
I would be surprised if it doesn't still count down in the E90...

we've got at least 3 people with E90's confirming the behavior has changed since the E46 just on this thread alone

As previously stated, the mileage shown for service is the mileage your car will have when due. It is computed based on your driving style and conditions. So driving hard, or constant stop/start driving will reduce it, and so will driving in dusty conditions a lot, etc. If you're a highway driver like me, you'll always have long service intervals because those miles are easy on the car.

My oil monitor started at 16,000 and now reads 15,000, after 4,000 miles of highway driving. Ditto the above about the mileage shown being the mileage when service is required. Also note that the engine air filter gets replaced every third oil change. It would probably be helpful to remind the dealer of this when you take it in for the third oil service.

The other monitors are interesting:

The pollen filter started out at 27,000 and now reads 23,000. Does it go by how hard the HVAC fan is running? If so, that explains it, it's hot right now and the HVAC is running at full blast most of the time.

The brakes started at 27,000 front / 34,000 rear and now read something like 39,000 front / 45,000 rear. Does it calculate how hard and how much you are using the brakes?

Inspection started at 30,000 and now reads 27,000. I'm not sure if the date changed.

I think the brake fluid (every 2 years), emissions inspection (every 5), and spark plug replacement (every 100k miles) are static.

The manual doesn't say anything about when the wiper blades get replaced. I think it used to be every oil service, but this isn't mentioned in the E90 manual. Anyone know?

Guys, sorry if you think I'm pestering you but, if you check the manual, you'll see that the times or distances shown of the service interval display is remaining, not the time/distance you'll be at when it is time bring the car in for service.
Ref manual, page 185:

"On the Control Display, you can have the remaining times or distances for selected maintenance tasks and any legally prescribed dates displayed, refer to page

69:

> Engine oil

> Brakes: separately for front and rear

> Microfilter/activated-charcoal filter

> Brake fluid

> Spark plugs

> Vehicle check

> Legally mandated inspections depending"

I think its easy to see why this has been confusing, no one has yet driven far enough for the car to properly settle in and starting to count down, its still adjusting to each different drivers personal driving style etc.

AFAIK the spark plugs get replaced at 100,000 miles, regardless of driving style. If the mileage display shows the miles remaining, mine should have counted down to 96,000, as my E90 has 4,000 miles on it.

I don't really know why they included the spark plugs in the readouts (really long mileage item at 100k) and not the O2 sensors (every 120k, not that much longer than the plugs).

The service interval is calculated for the fuel consumption. Thats why all owners get different intervals. The fuel consumption is a good measure for service intervals, it takes into account:
# cold starts
driving in congestion, in country roads or Autobahn
driving hard or environmentally
only driver or fully loaded
winter or summer

i have this problem where it started couting down frmo 25k and yet another member in this forum.
I reported this to the dealer and he said its a problem and did a software update.
and it did not fix it so he is telling its common as you drive the indicator will do down.
