Attention posters about accidents

I've been seeing a lot of accident related posts in the past few months and I wanted to share a thought. The general they all attempts to vent and the advise being asked is often on how bad and pricey the fix would be. I think both of those are bad reasons to post. Regardless of the fact that you are leasing or financing or owning the car you may be in position to wanting to sell it and all your accident related archived posts will eventually surface unless the buyer is not part of the online community. Most minor accidents do not get reported and CarFax does not pick them up which leaves your post to be the only evidence of a mishap and naturally may pose a problem during a sale. I for example do as much research as possible online when I am interested in a specific car and if I come across a post about an accident that describes the car I am interested in, I will either walk away from it or attempt to use that fact during price negotiations. So the moral of the story, try to resist the urge to post self incriminating content.

Just my .02 cents.

Umm...Ok...so you do as much research as possible to guarantee you're making the best possible choice. Good for you! Yet, on the other hand, you're telling people NOT to make information available for research. Hmm...i wonder where that leaves you....

It's wrong to hide info about an accident no matter what!

Is it as wrong as advising somebody to punch a woman in the vag?

LOL! Punching in the vag.

But seriously I bought a CPO from a dealer and straight up asked if it was in an accident. On my way home (bought in another state drove back to my state) I tried the active cruise control and it would not work. I take it to my BMW who says the sensors shifted and it had been in an accident. Probably rear-ended someone and was repaired but repaired like shit. That really pissed me off. I made the dealer I bought it from pay for it and give me a bunch of extras or they would have to come pick this car up for being liars. I'm still mad about it!

I am not suggesting hiding details or facts, I am saying don't go around advertising it to the world. Those are 2 distinct things. It is the same notion that pleading the 5th assumes guilt, which it doesn't.

BTW, I don't think punching the vag was a joke. It's a similar problem, my opinion has already been formed without even knowing the the guy personally. Don't make everyone form an opinion about your car beforehand.

I've sold cars previously and was always 100% honest with the buyer. These forums, especially general discussion, are intended to discuss anything car related in my opinion. I understand your point, but personally, I think you are overthinking it

Don't forget the possible legal consequences of all the posts here. If your accident involved someone else or their vehicle, I'd take your lawyers advice and say nothing. Anything you post here about your accident could potentially be incriminating. Certainly, your insurance company would advise you to say and write nothing to any third party, read the instructions on your insurance card if you doubt this.

Don't forget, people are just screenames and avatars online. Unless you're planning on selling the car on this forum, asking for people's advice is a what these forums are all for.

most people won't disclose their full name, license plate number or VIN on this forum anyways.

I hear the general point of this post, but it seems to imply that one is trying to "cover things up".
In my case, someone hit my door and left me with the present. I made my insurance company aware and working it out with them. There is nothing wrong with trying to find the best deal for parts, that's one big reason why these forums are here...

I will because I'm Todd Davis and I love Lifelock

edit: for legal purposes... I may or may not be Todd Davis... and just in case I am and someone steals my identity this will not hold up in a court of law...

well even if you posted details bout your car on e90post... think bout it, when you sell your car how many of your potential buyers are from e90post?? most people out there dont know bout our little communities - even those that do own e9x cars...

I'm a paranoid person by nature, by I think the OP's paranoia is overkill.
