Sears Craftsman Jack?
http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/produ...seBVCookie=Yes
Is this a good jack to get for swapping out tires or do I need something more heavy duty? Also, what do you guys use to tighten/loosen the lugnuts? A powertool or a torque wrench? |

i think the jack may be rated high enough but you should get somethign bigger, as far the lugnuts use a torque wrench

I use a 3 ton jack and an adjustable torque wrench. You should make a filler piece for the lift points so that the plastic doesn't break. Wood inserts work fine. Also, if the jack doesn't come with stands, get them too!

I use the same jack and it works fine
don't use a torque wrench to loosen the lugnuts, buy a "breaker bar" which is a long handled socket wrench that has no racheting action, and is very useful around a car. use the torque wrench for final tightening only (the less you use it, the more accurate it is) |

sears has a real nice aluminium jack for about a $100... go for it. spend the money once.
and... low profile design for low clearance. http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/produ...seBVCookie=Yes

dropping a torque wrench is probably the worst thing you can do to it though... |

I picked up one of the cheaper 2ton Craftsman jacks and it included stands. I don' t expect any problems with it. It's not like we're lifting the entire car. Even if you lift an entire side you'll only be lifting about 1700lb.
Definitely go for the hand tools too, like the ones mentioned before. It's much harder to screw something up if you thread the lugs by hand and tighten them manually. Much harder to cross thread. As a side note, Don't forget to pick up an extension for the socket too. With the dish on most the BMW wheels it'll make it easier to get to the lugs. I know I underestimated it on my 162's and had to run back to Sears to pick one up as my torque wrence wouldn't make it past my fenders without it.

I love this jack, I think if I had that instead of the one I have I'd keep it indoors too, rather than in the garage. |

Hey guys, I just wanted to share another tip regarding the torque wrench. I always set mine back to "0" when done, I heard it keeps the thing accurate.

I have been stalking this Blue-Point Aluminum Service Jack from Snap-on. But don't know where to buy one or if it still available to buy and how much?
I would get the $99 costco but I am not a member so they wont let me get thru the door |

Snap-On/Mac is going to be ALOT more than Sears. YOu can get Snap-On/Mac tools from the trucks or online.

I just purchased this jack from sears only to realize that it doesn't fit under my E92 lowered on H&R sport, what are all the lowered people using (would prefer to stay in the same price range)

Cool thread! I am looking forward to buying a jack too, even though I don't exactly know how to use one yet.

http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product...=1&topnav=&s=1 The Aluminum jacks are nice since they do not wieght that much but being only able to lift 1.5 tons bothers me. I have one like this one which is a no-name brand and it has held up nicely, mine is 15 yrs old and still going strong. http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/produ...seBVCookie=Yes These seem really cheap compared to a professional jack. I can tell this jack does well, it allowed me to pull a car across the garage floor. The only complaint is it just barely fits under a car's front cross member or the rear differental, and angle for pumping up the jack is large so it makes getting the car off the ground the first few inches a bit hard. If you are going to spend $99 for a jack I would look at these types http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product...=1&topnav=&s=1 or http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/produ...TOOL&ihtoken=1 |
