auto at the drag tips...?
Ok so I am going to take my car to the strip (first time ever)... Anyone have some tips??
Obviously turn off DTC/DSC...(TIMYOYO)... But should I just let the car shift in "DS" mode??... Start in 1st or 2nd?? What RPMS should I break boost at? Any help is greatly appreciated!!! Oh and I can't avoid the waterbox where I am going (ATCO raceway) and I have new sumitomo summers on... I guess I should just drive through the box and burnout quick just to get the water off?

Why would you launch in 2nd? 1st is certainly your only option. The auto gearbox only starts you off in 2nd because the extra torque isn't necessary for city driving. I would leave it in DS just because it obviously will shift at more optimal times, unless your running a tune and know where you want to shift to keep boost higher. I would probably launch at about 1800-2000 RPM.
And are our cars even capable of doing a burnout in the burnout box? I think it would end up a one-wheel smoke out show. |

Hello, I'm really sorry for kind of dumb question, but it really bothers me and there's no better place to ask this than 1addicts.
I have 135i with auto box, just like the person who started this thread, I'm interested in finding out the best way to start in this car. More importantly I want to get an answer to my question: is there sort of launch control for our cars? I mean is there any other way to start well besides turning off DSC, putting the car into S mode and slamming the pedal to the floor for the kick-down? Thanks in advance for the replies! |

No theres no launch control for the Step. And to 993 911 you can't launch the Step at 2K. The power overwhelms the brakes. You should launch at about 1100-1300. With the slushbox you only need to preload the box. That range will do that. Obviously pick where in that range to launch based on tires, temp, and track conditions.

I have steptronic and I rev launch from about 1300-1600rpms, foot on brake, then punch the accelerater and release the brake and away I go. DSC and DTC are still on and I still manage a great launch. If you over rev launch it, DTC will kick in and apply the breaks and cut out your power momentarily.

Roll through and get the water off on your burnout. If you're running jackpot back-to-back, you might need the cooling on your second run 'cause summer streets can turn into a greasy mess. Play with this, ambient temps will make a difference. Otherwise, avoid the swamp.
Launch in the mid-4Ks in first gear and shift at 6500. There's not much above that and accidentally hitting the limiter will kill your times.

Great tips on the first part, but this is a Step we are talking about. You are talking about launching a stick.
