1st time Tracking this M3 -- VIR

Took the E92 to VIR for the first time this past weekend.

The weather was bad, with rain most of the time, but the car was impressive. Very neutral and balanced. Easy to slide gently and bring back into line, as required. Nothing alarming or unsettling. On the one dry run, the power built nicely and the brakes - with Pagid, SS Lines, and Castrol seemed very strong and fade free. I was worried about the fade issue and it was non existant --at least for now.

As always it was fun to pass some fast cars that should have been kicking my rear.

Can't wait for some dry track time!

great pic...I just signed up for my first trackday on May 15th, hopefully the weather will be nice! I've always wondered if you still had to run w/ the windows open on rainy days, did the car get really wet inside?

anymore pics? I love IB to me even in the overcasted pic it looks amazing

I'm all wet...

Even with both windows open (and buckets of rain) it stays remarkably dry at the track in this car. But, some of my pals were soaked

Windows are required to be open at every track day I have ever attended. The drivers window for point by's (if needed) and the passenger window for no good reason at all -- but it does help eqalize the pressure.

This car is a great track toy.

Open windows are a safety thing. If something bad happens, rescue crews need fast access. Both front windows fully open at all times when on track.

Great photo! God I love IB and at times wish I had selected that color. What were the cars you passed that should have been kicking your ass?

Passed 2 c6 Z06 vettes, 2 996 GT3s, 1 997 GT3, 1 997 Turbo, and some others. I was wearing street tires, and I'm sure some of these fellers were on R rubber. Without doing anything foolish, the m3 seemed stable and nicely planted in MDM. A fun day despite the weather.

For all who might be interested, there are a couple of VIR events being run by an excellent group called Mazda Drivers, one in June (4.2 mile Grand course) and one in August (3.7 mile full course). Reasonable pricing, excellent instruction, and tons of seat time! Check them out at mazdadrivers.coml. They are extremely friendly and welcome enthusiasts of all brands.

For fun, I thought I would try painting 2 OEM stock tow hooks bright red -- I used Rustoleoum Spray w/ 4 coats. I threw some wax on top for good measure.

The look was ok -- and with a Blue M the Red made it all seem more "M-ish". Its the little things, really...

For the wet laps I ran in MDM -- which was perfect. This is a very easy car to hustle around the track.
