got a flat tire..
driving to work the other day..flat tire warning came one..got to work checked it out.passenger rear tire has a screw in it...i work about 40 miles away so i drove home back on it..total miles on flat tire about 50..called the dealer today (BMW of SF) tire is on backorder no help at all (bought car from them)..called peter pan BMW (san mateo) guy in part dept is looking into tryin to find something. said someone ordered 2 tires on may 25th. still not in..i have no idea wat to do..i can go without a car for couple of days..but weeks i dont know...dont know wat to do..took it to sears auto shop..they wont patch run flats. anyone know of a place that can patch? but first is it even possible to patch since it is fairl close to the sidewall..dont know wat to do....i dont have a spare car..and i dont have tire insurance..and i was telling myself a month ago to add it..havent had time. also the guy said i might need to replace both rear tires so it will be even? thats true? i took couple of pics..

Will the tire hold air with the screw still in it?
It's hardly ideal, but if it is just a slow leak you can probably drive on it for a few weeks as necessary, just check the pressure every day. I drove on a leaky tire for 6 months with no problems until I finally got around to getting it repaired. Also, that may be far enough from the sidewall to be repairable. You'll have to ask around at various tire shops. --gos

Is it just me, or do the RFT tires seem more prone to flats? Ironic. Or maybe it's just the relative scarcity of these tires, leading to more posts about them because those who get flat tires have to wait weeks to get replacement tires.

the tire is leakin air..i did pour water over the screw and you can see bubbles..it doesnt look like a whole lot air is being let out..the only part that worries me is that the guy at one dealer said i might have to replace both tire to make it even. i have 14k miles on the car right now...is this true or better for the car? replace both?

BMW SF Sucks... Service anyways. Call Stevens Creek or Concord and see if they have one in stock. it would be a good idea to replace both, but i mean with 14k miles you could go either way... IMO.

Jeez! The world is going f-ing mad.
Drive to a tire store, have them remove the screw and plug the tire. It's not in the side wall. $20. Maybe $25. I'm sick of reading about sane rational people being conned into buying a new tire or tires because they get a flat in their super-duper-high-tech RFTs.

I don't think it has anything to do w/ RFT's. I consistently get nails in my tires/flats, and I've never owned a vehicle w/ RFT's. It just depends on the roads you're driving on. |

Go to Wal-mart and get the plug kit and do it your self for a couple of bucks. My nail and screw were just as close to the sidewall and I had them both plugged with no problems. I have said this like a hundred times already.

No need to get a patch and have them fuck up the rim. Get the plug and you can even leave it on the rim. Why make things harder than they have to be
