Will the tire hold air with the screw still in it?

It's hardly ideal, but if it is just a slow leak you can probably drive on it for a few weeks as necessary, just check the pressure every day.

I drove on a leaky tire for 6 months with no problems until I finally got around to getting it repaired.

Also, that may be far enough from the sidewall to be repairable. You'll have to ask around at various tire shops.

Is it just me, or do the RFT tires seem more prone to flats? Ironic. Or maybe it's just the relative scarcity of these tires, leading to more posts about them because those who get flat tires have to wait weeks to get replacement tires.

the tire is leakin air..i did pour water over the screw and you can see bubbles..it doesnt look like a whole lot air is being let out..the only part that worries me is that the guy at one dealer said i might have to replace both tire to make it even. i have 14k miles on the car right now...is this true or better for the car? replace both?

i agree..thought about ditching them but when the warning light went on. i was so far away from home i thought about if i didnt have RFT i would have to call a tow truck (pending the tire had a bigger leak) in this paticular case i would of been fine..but if it takes them weeks or months to get..might have to ditch the RFTs

Guess what? I'm selling a set of (4) Brand New Potenza RFTs 18" for $575 plus shipping -- $625 shipped. These tires have just 700 miles on them. Let me know if you're interested. I can ship right away.

Put some Tire Wet on right before the picture.

BMW SF Sucks... Service anyways. Call Stevens Creek or Concord and see if they have one in stock. it would be a good idea to replace both, but i mean with 14k miles you could go either way... IMO.

Jeez! The world is going f-ing mad.

Drive to a tire store, have them remove the screw and plug the tire. It's not in the side wall.

$20. Maybe $25.

I'm sick of reading about sane rational people being conned into buying a new tire or tires because they get a flat in their super-duper-high-tech RFTs.

Yeah, I hear ya. But RFT are new and most people aren't sure what to do when they actually get a flat with them. Take it to any reputable TIRE store. I have had very good success with my local Big-O Tire, but your results may vary. Just make sure the 18 year old newbie doesn't patch it and you should be OK.

I don't think it has anything to do w/ RFT's. I consistently get nails in my tires/flats, and I've never owned a vehicle w/ RFT's. It just depends on the roads you're driving on.

i've took the car to 5 tire shops so far..none of them will touch it..including goodyear...i dont know anything about tires especially RFT so i dont if they can be patched or not. but by having 5 tire shop shut me down..sounds like there is a reason why they wont..although i am still trying to find a shop to fix it..

called concord BMW..they have 2 in stock. although a guy called in earlier today asking about them..so i am waiting on a call back to see if they are still there..

Go to Wal-mart and get the plug kit and do it your self for a couple of bucks. My nail and screw were just as close to the sidewall and I had them both plugged with no problems. I have said this like a hundred times already.

No need to get a patch and have them fuck up the rim. Get the plug and you can even leave it on the rim. Why make things harder than they have to be

A well equipped tire shop will not mess up the rim. I've had more flats than I can count, and never has my local Big-O messed up a wheel. EVER! All patches are not created equal.

That holds true for any tire though, not just RFT's. Good luck!

I'm trying to give you some advice on the experience with my 2 RFT's and I guess you are either too lazy to go to Wal-mart, Don't want to get your hands dirty, or just don't give a damn. But thats ok you do whatever you want sorry I even mentioned anything.
