My turn, dreaded fuel pump failure

ok, I have a 2008 335i coupe, 19200 miles, build date, 10/23/2007. Over the last week I noticed the usual symptoms of longer starts. This morning was noticeably longer and when I left work tonight, it had the longest start of all. Then within 2 miles of home the car started to sputter, drag, hesitate, and groan and then all of a sudden the engine malfunction light came on and reduced power warning in the idrive. Drove to Dealer, they said to come back tomorrow morning to get a rental car. I also asked for the version 32.x.x software update.

Good luck, I guess based on your mileage we just don't know when it will happen. I've got 11k but my car is old (12/06 delivery)...

I just posted over on the Fest -- mine went last weekend while in the middle of the desert on my way to Las Vegas. 13k miles, 04/08 build. Desert BMW fixed me up same day.

I am actually glad it finally went. I always had the failure in on my mind. Plus just got a transfer to MClean, Va, so I will be driving back and forth for the next 12 months until I relocate permanently.

My "malfunction - reduced power" light came on this morning. Turned off/on the car twice and it went away.

I'm hesitant to take my car to the dealership because of the BOV I have in my car. Do you know if they'll still fix the fuel pump issue without voiding my warranty after looking at the bov?

we need someone to make a hard data count of all failures and document them so we can get a rough idea of how fairly common this problem is....has this been done before??....i don't seem to know of anyone in my area that has had this problem with theirs yet....

state the name of the gas you usually use guys. I had 2 HPFP failed on me when I used Shell, then I switch to 100% Mobil. I was better off although the car was bought back anyway.

I heard from a good source that the HPFP has a 100% failure rate

It's not if, it's when it's going to fail....
At least for the 1st two versions of the HPFP. I don't know if the 3rd version is as bad.

it is ridiculous how 50K cars have this problem...

what if the car dies at 2AM and your stranded in the middle of no where. BMW dealerships are closed and you will be forced to tow your car to who knows where...

Anyone have an answer to my question above?

I'm at almost 24,000 miles
