why are there two different arm rests?

why do some e90's have the single boring looking
arm rest? while i see others in pics with the split
softer looking one? Is that a usa/rest of the world thing?

It's just to order the split arm rest if one wants it. The other is for the stripped down versions.

USA is said to be the land of freedom, but it's very restricted regarding available options for BMW cars.
I'm glad to live in Germany and to have the freedom of choice.
USA, you can learn much from european buying behaviour.

The split armrest is an option (€215 here).
It's looks cool and more luxurious and the drivers section slides forward and back. For city driving with a lot of gear changes I slide it back so it's not in the way of my elbow. On longer cruises, I slide it forward to rest my elbow on.

Like most BMW options though, it's not really worth the money

I'm also curious about this mod. What's the part#/cost associated with this mod? I am compiling a list of part numbers so that I can order my mods when my car arrives.

I prefer the single "boring" looking armrest. I don't see the need to have a division there.

^^This man speaks truth.

Here is the RealOEM page for the split armrest:
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...26&hg=51&fg=35

I'm trying to find a part# for black leather/leatherette, and there doesn't seem to be one on the list (..unless "Dakota" leather/Black/Schwarz is the part; 51167147219 $305.78).

edit:

Apparently, Schwarz is considered anthracite based on this page found on Ebay:

Crevier BMW is known for being able to obtain many parts from Europe (..i.e...OEM CSL CF parts, etc.). I'd check with them. I'm sure the armrest can be obtained.

edit:

I've ordered the armrest, so it can be ordered in the states.

Facts regarding the armrest

- there are no changes to the compartment under it
- the 2 sections raise together. You cannot just open one side at a time
- the drivers section slides forward and back a few cms

Apart from the fact that it looks 10 times better with all the leather and stitching the only real advantage is that the drivers sections slides forward and back.
