Airbag and seatbelt warning lights
Hi. This morning those two lights on the dash decided to come on and stay on. They came on as I was driving along at about 30mph and stayed on the whole journey. I did another journey and they stayed on from the start. Could this be a fuse gone or is it time to make a call and get it checked out?

I had the same problem. I brought in my car and they had some part replaced. It had something to do with a mechanism that activates the passenger air bag when a certain weight is reached. It took a couple of days to the part in.

I just had the same problem and I had to wait 3 days for parts. The worst thing is that 2 days later I had to take it again for the same problem.
That really sucks! |

Interesting, mine did that last week when I had a small package on the front seat weighing about 5 kilos. When I started the car all these warnings came on about airbags and restraint systems being faulty. I stopped the engine, removed the key then restarted it and it went away. Then the passenger seal belt warning came on due to the weight on the seat, which was correct.

Hmm, haven't carried anything large on the passenger seat recently (apart from a strapped in passenger yesterday!). Will get it checked out. Glad to hear it may be the passenger side, not the driver's side, and I'm not going to have the airbag go off in my face (the thought did cross my mind).

I suppose they don't have a weight sensor on the driver seat as one would assume if the car was moving, then there would be a driver present by default.

Hi all. Just to bring this thread back up rather than restart another one. The car is now going back to the dealer for the fourth time for the same problem.
Trip 1: The dealer had the car for a day but had to order a part - the horn slip ring (?). They couldn't give me a courtesy car so I took the car back. Trip 2: Car back in a week or so later once the part came in. They fitted it and reprogrammed something or other. Just over a week later the warning lights are back on. Trip 3: Car goes back to the dealer and again they replace the horn slip ring and do some reprogramming. Delivery driver is now getting sick of seeing my car. Yesterday the warning lights came back on. Trip 4: Car is now booked in for next week. This is the soonest I can get even though I have two warnings lights glowing red on my dash that are part of the safety system on the car and the handbook in the boot says 'get checked without delay'. To be fair it is being efficiently collected and returned from my place of work but that's beside the point. This expensive product of BMWs is not getting fixed. <angry/resigned/fed up smiley> Thanks for reading, Jon. |

Airbag Lights On
It also happened to me. I found the small yellow plug underneath the passenger front seat to have come disconnected. I onnected, but the lights remained on. The dealer then took 20 seconds to switch it off for me. Check the basics first.

Well, the large yellow connectors under both seats look well and truly not disconnected from each other or anything else. Any more ideas?
Thanks, Jon |

It's back (and I'll continue my ranting in this thread rather than starting a new one each time). Off to the dealer again in a couple of weeks. How many more times before I say 'keep the car'?!

I had the same light/warning last time someone sat in my front passenger seat.. I freaked out since there was warning about airbag and other stuff in my idrive screen.
turns out he was 'holding' their seatbelt (to avoid ticket? ) and not fastening them. More troublesome than to actually use them if you ask me.. but I made him fasten his seatbelt to stop the alert. Last edited by nyc3r; 09-11-2006 at 03:17 PM.. |

There was a thread that discussed this a few weeks ago...
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17369 The solution for my car -- on its second trip to the dealer -- was to replace a cable in the back trunk.

Well... I have my car back from the dealer and after keeping it overnight this time they've replaced the 'wiring loom to the airbag'. Will it fix the problem? Why didn't they replace this the first, second and third times round? Who knows...

Mine was actually the seat sensor, and they had to replace the whole pass. seat lower, cushion and all. There is a bulletin on it I was told. Has been fine for a few weeks now.
