Door popped open on highway
Well it didn't really "pop" open.
Today I went over a bump on the highway 401 (it isn't a big bump - I go over that same bump at the same speed almost everyday) and my right rear door got unlatched. The door open warning light went on and I could hear the loud road noise from outside. I could feel the heat (it's 35 degrees today in Toronto). I didn't know whehter the door is actaully fully unlatched so I drove very carefully off the highway (esp during the offramp - I don't want my door to swing open when I am slow enough when the air resistance cannot force the door shut). I checked on the door aftwards and it turns out that the door isn't unlatched all the way (i.e. it won't open by itself). I still have to pull the door handle to open the door. I will mention this to the dealer when I bring it in for the oil change next time... I've had quite a few "door-related" problems with this car: 1) My door handles become stuck when I pull it in the winter. Brought it to the dealer to fix already but still didn't fix the problem. My collegue has the same problem with the car. 2) My trunk sometimes will open automatically when I start my car. I don't hear the "click" sound you hear when the trunk open button is pressed but rather I just get a "door opened" warning and I find my trunk open all of a sudden. 3) today's problem above. Anyone with similar experience? |

Didn't you see the warning light that your door was ajar?

Yes it was probably not latched properly when I drove away. However, there was no indication (ie no warning light) of that. That's probably the better desciption of the problem.

you could also easily tell by looking at the interior lights as they would be on if any of the doors weren't properly latched.

The interior lights was not on until that bump. All indications show the door was latched but it wasn't 100%.
If I drive with my door unlatched it will give me a constant warning so I will know... |

Consider this new TSB for the rear door latches on pre 04/06 E90s:
http://www.alldata.com/tsb/BMW/11544...5/6103051.html Looks like the door handles stick open sometimes.

the trunk problem is not when you start the car. trunk was opened before you start the car thats why you would never hear the trunk opening sound(that "click" sound), and it seems like it just opened out of nowhere. I had the same problem. It was so annoying, to the point where it would open everytime I start the car. I got fixed though.
