Top Gear

Is anybody watching Top Gear (BBC)?
Although it's been on air since 2002, I only discovered the show a couple of month ago. It's a huge change compare to all the crappy auto shows I used to watch back in France...
It is insanely good!! Everything about that show is great; the test-drives, the challenges, the presenters, and the STIG.
They always introduce the team racing driver with an outlandish or outrageous claim, often tied to current affair or contemporaneous events .

" Some say that the outline of his left nipple is exactly the same shape as the Nurburg ring, and that if you give him a really important job to do, he’ll skive off and play croquet..."

Top Gear is the arguably the BEST automotive show to ever exist. Season 12 was good, but Seasons 10 and 11 were really good IMO.

It is certainly the best in my opinion. If you are into bittorrent downloading, you can get any one you want at Final Gear:

http://www.finalgear.com/shows/topgear/

The season 10 polar special is definitely worth watching...

I think the more recent seasons are better than the old ones, though the old one are more about cars and less of the quirky challenges.

You can also watch some of them streaming over the net at this site:
link

Enjoy!

p.s. Is season 12 over now, or are they on a holiday break?

I don't think the last show (S12E08) was the season finale...
Thanks for the links.

I'm pretty sure that was the last episode, however Wikipedia has been known to be wrong before.

Season 12 is done. The last show was the Vietnam special. It is rumored that new shows will be back maybe as soon as March. I also agree, season 10 was great.

I too discovered it a few months ago....it's now set on the DVD!

I love the older car challenges, and also like the presenters very much. They are quite funny, and don't appear to be full of themselves, just have a genuine love of automobiles.

Top Gear is GREAT!!! Positively love that show. The production value, the writing of the segments, the picture and music editing are all superb.

I was just watching the Limo challenge with a buddy the other day. We both had tears in our eyes by the time the segment was over. The bit where Hammond gets nailed by the water cannon had me on the floor!! Another segment that comes to mind is one that Clarkson did a number of years ago. He took a Toyota truck and beat the living SNOT out of it. Ran it into the ground, literally. At one point he put it out in the ocean, and let it sit overnight in the rising tide. By morning he had it pulled out, drained the water from the engine, started it up and drove it away. Amazing. They still have the truck in the studio. You see it in the wide shots, it's the beaten up red Toyota.

If you're not into downloading Torrent files (via www.finalgear.com) you can download the actual video files from http://www.surfthechannel.com/show/61025.html (though doing it that way is more cumbersome, as you can't set them and walk away).

For torrent files, www.utorrent.com is one of the best downloader programs out there.

Either way, finalgear or the surfthechannel websites will allow you to download all episodes of the 12 seasons.

Totally agree. TOP GEAR rules.

I am expecting to go to England this spring, so I went to their website to see about tickets for viewing. Turns out their waiting list is like a year long. I signed up anyway...

Oh, just so you know, BBC America runs the show -- it's even available for viewing on Comcast On-Demand (as well as download from iTunes). Those versions are edited for time, though (maybe about 5-10 minutes cut -- taking the 60 minute show down to 50-55 minutes,) and are running about two seasons behind what's being aired in the UK.

There was talk about NBC doing a US version called TOP GEAR USA starring Adam Carolla, but NBC passed on it. In a way, I'm kind of glad...I'd hate to see a dumbed-down show for the American market. (I noticed a lot of our Aussie friends are lukewarm on the Australian TOP GEAR, too.)

Yeah the US version of Top Gear is out the window. No support from the Auto manufacturers. That was the reason I was given by somone very close to the production. NBC passing is the story given out so that the auto manufacturers don't look like asses. Sign o' the times methinks.

Well, then I'm very glad it didn't happen. TOP GEAR wouldn't be the show it is if it had to kowtow to the automakers.

However, I had come to the conclusion that there were several Stigs.

Funny, I remember when I was growing up, the only car type show on the tube was Motorweek on PBS, I loved it back then.....I still watch it every once in a while but wow is it LAME now. All they care about is Hybrids and Carbon Footprints.
