In-car Video Camera
I'm looking to buy an in-car video camera for track day events and wondered if anyone has any recommendations as to brand/model of camera that would work well on a cruisecam.com type headrest mount.
What features are most important? i.e., hard disk recorder, image stabilization etc. Not looking necessarily for a high-end, feature rich model. Just something basic to get the job done. |

I have both a GoPro Hero and an Aiptek HD. The Aiptek has quite a following and costs less then the GoPro. I believe it may also takes larger capacity MiniSD cards. It can be powered from the car battery where the GoPro takes batteries and the case must be opened to change the batteries. The resolution is higher with the Aiptek HD. There is a large community using the Aiptek HD and that community has developed many hacks to improve performance. PM me and I can provide more information. The GoPro has a distinct advantage if mounting outside the car because it comes in a somewhat weather tight case.
Although I have taken many movies, I have only posted one to Vimeo. It was taken late in the day so the automatic aperature is compensating in the attached video link. Two well known pro drivers are driving the second 996TT and the R32. Note there is a vintage 2002 near the end of the video. If you note at the top of the roller coaster you can see the waving yellow flag which Mark must have missed because the next thing you see is him spinning across the track in Hog Pen. If you follow the link to my album, most of the videos posted there are using the Aiptek HD.

That's great! Thank you both for the info. Does the Aiptek HD your using in your vimeo.com clip have image-stabilization and also what camera mount are you using in your 911 and where's it mounted? Good video!
