UK Warranty and Mods question

Has anyone teken their car in with a different Air filter fitted and had any comments from the dealer ?

I am thinking of getting the complete Riss Racing intake system and don't want them to void my warranty for anything other than what the air filter could cause (which isn't much)

Si-135i,

Check this on the General forum as someone recently had their warranty voided due to a remap and downpipe which threw up an error on the ECU.

Best take all mods off when you take it for a service.

I am dreading taking out the airbox again to remove the SSTT.... but it's a must do task!

Yeah, just read that, looks like there was quite a few things to make the job very easy for the dealer to void. ie CO simulator, de catted down pipes (hence the need for a CO simulator), SSTT etc. The code looks like it was thrown by the decatted downpipes not having the CO sensor and the simulator trying to Trick the ECU into believing the levels were correct. Also, it was a New car with the tamper logging ECU. My car is a Nov 07 build so the old ECU so I won't throw any codes. My concern was would they vpoid my whole warranty seeing this or jus anything that they say would be caused by it (the latter being 0 risk in the real world)

I'll second that Moff, but should be easier re-installing than first time round. I also have a K&N panel filter, which I intend to keep in. I had a K&N on my old M3 and never had a problem - dealer even bought my car back when I went to change to the 135i.

Mad.

I don't think there is a full answer on this one. At the end of the day it's down to the individual dealership. If you have any issues when you bring it in, then they surely will look for a mod as an escape goat.

Better play it safe if you want to keep your warranty and remove it.

I have been keeping a close eye on the 'Warranty Gone' thread.

The guy was running SSTT etc - as above.

It does seem to me that he lost he warranty as he was:

1) Pushing the boundaries of modding
2) Left one or more mods on, raising suspicion
3) Used the SSTT in adverse altitude conditions with a O2 sensor which threw up a fault code.

Having a remap or SSTT and/or an airbox will not normally throw a fault code from what I have read.

It would be good to get this confirmed by SSTT though.

**DISCLAIMER** Not that I have one anyway!
