Bike carrier for E90
Plan on purchasing a new road bike and was interested in what others have done as far as transporting their bike on the road. Have seen the roof mount in the BMW catalog but was possibly considering a trunk mount.

Road bike carrier for E90
I had the BMW carrier for my E46 sedan. The significant risk for absent minded people like me is a close encounter with your garage door frame (yes, I did it). The retainer for the rear wheel was bent, but still works.
The quick-release retainer for the front fork has been re-designed, as have the bars and feet that screw into the roof of your car. I think the mounting of the bars/supports is better (I've just purchased the E90 system). The bike carrier itself is on order (actually, now AT my dealer, but I'm 40 miles away). The old system sometimes was difficult to cinch tightly around the fork drop-outs; I don't know if the new one is any better. I think you can also use either Thule or Yakima carriers with the BMW system, but I'm not certain of that. Overall, as long as you don't do bone-headed things like many of us do, the roof rack makes more sense in terms of retaining access to the trunk, not risking scratching your paint, etc. If you just carry one bike and don't carry luggage at the same time, it's easy to get the bike (with the front wheel removed) in the car with the rear seats folded forward. |

althought I dont have one yet
I like the roof top carrier over the trunk mount, I had issue with dents and paint scratches be on other cars.

I've Thule rack system with BMW base rack on my E46 and it works fine, I'm sure you can get the BMW E90 baserack and then mount either Thule or Yakima.

Hi guys,
I have both the e46 Roof Rack and the Touring/Mountain Bike holder. Does anyone know if the e46 Roof Rack will fit on an e90 and if not will my Touring/Mountain Bike holder work with the new e90 roof rack?
