Hot Air in Cabin?

Hey all,

Anyone else have this "problem"? When I turn on the fans, the air that is always blown into the cabin is warm, I mean, as if I had the heaters on. But I've got the temp setting dialed down to 60 on both the driver and pass sides. Is this common or is something up with my car?

I only mention it because the only way to keep the car a comfortable temperature is to run the AC non-stop. Thanks

Mine does the same thing, which is a rude awakening when it's already hot as He%$ in the car on a summer day.

same thing... im trying to find how to turn fresh air off.. without turning on the climate system.. cuz u choose that recirculate option.. it turns the entire system on including A/C.

My guess is heat soak from the engine compartment heats up all the ventilation ducting.

Everyone has this issue. The problem is where the cabin air is feed from.

The cabin air is feed from two holes underneath the windshield (right under the wipers). Those two holes go into the plastic cover into the cabin air filters. From there, air is feed to the cabin air filters from that big plastic cover (the one that covers half the motor). The cabin air filters sit on top of that. Then air is feed from the sides of that big plastic cover (by the ECU box). Problem is that the motor releases A LOT of heat and lot of it gets trapped underneath that cover and acts like an oven. That heat goes through the plastic cover where the cabin air is being feed from and that's how we get warm air in the cabin.

On our car, we removed the big plastic cover but kept the cabin air filters in there. We did so to try to keep heat under control so that it's not trapped underneath. Problem is, cabin air is A LOT warmer. When the a/c is off, it feels like the heater is on full blast. When the a/c is one, it blows like regular air.

Pretty accurate. So I always have to use my A/C unless its an especially cold day.. (under 60F)

i usually just open the sunroof or the sunroof vent.

another perhaps related issue. I have been noticing lately that if i keep my a/c and fan completely off, my windshield fogs up in this one spot by the passenger side on the bottom. anyone else notice this? if i turn on a/c it goes away.

At least I finally have a car where I can leave A/C on and not have the car become a dog. Its fast enough to where you dont really notice A/C robbing any power.

Is the REST button ON when the hot air is blowing? I know the REST button gets the heat from the engine and blows it into the cabin.

nah, the rest button isn't on. But I think Evolution is on top of this...

I tried playing with the settings last night and the air circulation buttons. No matter where I set it, hot air came in while I was driving. I guess there's nothing to be done about this except use the AC when it's warm out and pop the sunroof, then just hang in there until winter when the warm air is welcomed.

this just ISN'T normal... I paid extra attention the last 2 days driving around. My legs start to sweat cuz its like the heaters always on full blast.. Could be something they will eventually fix. Glad I'm just leasing.

You know, I just thought of something. If you get some heat reflecting wrap and put it underneath that cover over the engine, it might help or fix the problem. Try the expensive gold wrap stuff that we use on firewalls, etc... That stuff really works.

I wonder why nobody has mentioned this heat issue earlier... it seems to be a common.

Try this...

Set your fan to the lowest speed (but not off)
Set the vent to the middle setting
Make sure the AC is off
Make sure Auto is off (if you have this)
Set the temp on both dials to the lowest number (60)
Drive around for about 5 minutes or so and then put your hand over the vents and see what the temp feels like.

When I do this, I get what feels like fresh air coming in rather than the "heated" air that you are describing.

good idea. didnt think of manually forcing the A/C off. then you'd also have to set reciruclation only so you wouldnt have air flow pushing in from outside.

no difference for me. not like i'd give the car back for something silly like this.. just a pain to deal with.

Sometimes when I start the car I just start A/C for a minute or so and then air gets and stays cooler even with A/C off.

It's definitely hot air being drawn in from the engine bay via the front cowl where the cabin filter resides (as mentioned already).

You have to either run the A/C or turn the fans off completely so that no air is circulating. Then either crack open the sunroof or passenger side window for some fresh air ventilation.

Turning the fan off does nothing to help this issue. in fact, it makes it worse.

Yup...that works too, but only when the engine is cold - before its had a chance to heatsoak the engine bay and the cabin intake ducts. The trick is not to turn off the fans once you have cool air.

Not in my car.....once the climate control system is completely off (ie no temp display on the console) warm air is no longer flowing into the car. You have to be sure to turn the fans completely off - which means shutting down the entire HVAC system.

But that's just my opinion.....yours may differ!
