Total loss of oil today

As it says in the title. On the way to work this morning, suddenly my windshield and the whole right side of the car were covered in oil. I guess for a while today I had the only black and red 135i.

Managed to pull of to the side and call for assistance. At the dealer we found out the high pressure oil line to the oil cooler had burst. Apparently, this is the second one they've seen.

Hmm. Makes me wonder. Worst part is going to be the clean up. I refuse to take it back until they clean off the last vestige of oil.

Wow, this is scary. I imagine you pulled over right away. Did the oil light come on? I'd be scared of this happening and not noticing and destroying an engine because there was no oil in it.

Wow! If you turned the engine off within seconds of seeing the oil your engine is ok. Have the dealer detail the car under warranty. Make sure they steam clean the engine and undercarriage.

Years ago I had VW Polo (UK Spec car) and the oil light came on. Turned it off and checked the oil. Oil ok!:iono: I drove a mile home thinking the dash light failed since I had oil. Turns out the oil pump failed. I had driven the car one mile with little or no oil pumping through the engine. Car ran fine after I replaced the oil pump.

Your engine is probably ok. I've heard horror stories of people buying used cars to find that there isn't a drop of oil in it.

I was never worried about the engine. There is enough oil coating all the parts to run for quite a while.

The warnings did not come on unitl I had pulled off to the side of the road. Total time from noticing leak to shut down was no more than 2 mins.

Whoa glad you're ok. this is disturbing news; hopefully it's an isolated incident and not indicative of a weak link in the car's construction.

Scary indeed. What is causing the burst? I would be beyond pissed if this happened to me.

Personally, I would want some written assurances from them regarding the engine and perhaps some sort of extension of the warranty in case you have issues with burning or cam problems at say 55,000 miles.

Car is back and working fine. The detailing is incredible. Cleaner than the day I oicked itup from the PDC.

The detailer told me he buffed and waxed. It is amazing how much better the paint looks. Apparently if you wait about 6 months after manufacture and do this then the paint is really hardened and can take on a nice luster.

P.S. Had the maintenance manager write up a report. Also called BMWNA and had them document the incident on my file.
