My paint is peeling... Under Warranty?

Just got done waxing my car and found that the paint is peeling on the driver's side panel over the front wheel. It is about 2 inches big, is this under warranty? I would think that it is but I want to make sure before I call. Thanks for all the forums help in advance...

Definitely covered under warranty. Please post pics. What you described is highly unusual.

I would say the clear coat is peeling and they should refinish it for you. Def a warranty fix.

Agree that it should not do that, and they'll cover it. To me, it does look like something whacked the crease, and got the clear coat to chip off though.

Wow, that's very surprising. They definitely should cover that under warranty.

Wow that's just wrong. I have never seen that happen on a brand new BMW, ever. That should definitely be covered under Warr.

That is terrible. Happened to one of my wheels a few months ago and the dealer replaced the wheel.

Update on my paint peeling dilemma... Sorry this is so long. I took my car to the dealer and this young cocky kid comes out and says let me take your car down the street to our body shop that does our work. I say ok a little weird but ok, I give him my keys and he speeds off in my car. When I say speed he basically floors it. Which right there pissed me off but I kept a level head. He comes back after 5-10 minutes and says there a rock chip and there is nothing we can do about it, and basically sorry about your luck but it will cost $400.00 to fix it. I told him I understand about the warranty not covering the rock chip but a rock chip should not cause the clear coat to peel off. This has to be a defect in the paint; I have never had a car do this and it only has 1900 miles. So I leave and call my sales rep at the dealership I bought the car from and tell him my problem and frustration. He basically tells me there is ways around to beat the system and to call BMW America and open up a customer ticket which I did. They have a factory engineer coming out to look at my car and see what they can do and my sales rep is going to talk to his boss. To me regardless if the rock caused it to start peeling they would fix it to keep a customer. This is my first BMW and I always thought they had great customer service and I have received that until now. This really turns me off about getting another BMW and letting my GF buy one in a few months when her lease is up. So right now we are at a stand still on who is paying for it. Really im just looking for validation on my point am I right or am I f*&ked and will have to pay for it out of my pocket. Any advice given will be helpful...

Thanks,

Of course you're justified, and this is not the first case of the dealers damaging the BMW brand. Feel free to complain about the attitude of the dealer's service guy !!

MI128:

The good news, assuming you are a CCA member, is that they just added two new Ombudsmen to their program, which is intended to serve as an intermediary in just these kinds of dealer/customer disputes. I suggest you first see if the Factory Engineer is able to resolve the issue to your satisfaction. If not, I'd next consider using the CCA Ombudsmen Program.

If you're not a CCA member, you should probably consider it regardless of this issue's outcome. Excellent monthly periodical, lots of regional events, truly unique national events (Watkins Glen this year), and other member services like the excellent technical support only a keyboard away when corresponding with Mike Miller. Sample copy of the Roundel is on-line for you to review. http://bmwcca.org

Good luck. Keep us posted.

OP: What's the last 7 of your VIN (PM me)? I'm curious to see if any paint damage was repaired at the VPC.

Time for an update.... The factory engineer looked at my car and found no reason why they wouldn't repair the bumper. So right now they are removing the bumper and refinishing the clear coat. They have told me it will look good as new... Thanks for everyone's help.:w00t:

Emails always works. Plus I would have also pull that driver that peeled off to the side and told him "you do that again and we both going in to talk to your manager".

good that they chose to do the right thing. i read your first post about that ignorant service employee and was getting ready to write a scathing post...hehe

that kind of clear coat peel will NOT EVER be caused by a rock chip. it is caused by the failure of the clear coat to adhere to the base coat, which is a defect that occurred when the car was prepped and painted.

that kind of thing very rarely occurs with factory paint jobs, so i would inquire if your car sustained any bumper/fender damage during transit and was repainted at the VPC or by the dealer...
