Fuel tank hitting cross brace........

I have been hearing a clunk from Right rear when that wheel goes over sharp bumps, thought at first it was pax seatbelt hitting b pillar but noise was still present with pax in seat. So, inspecting RR area see nothing out of ordinary except for the right (passenger) side of the fuel tank is resting on the cross strap/brace under the car. Tank is plastic BTW ...... if I smacked the bottom of the tank I can recreate the clunk sound I was hearing.....

So can a few you look under right side and see if your tank is hanging low enough to rest on the cross brace......Thanks

Man, nobody can take a look for me? I'm going to take her in but it would be nice to know how common for tank to rest on strap.....

OK - I checked - but you'll have to wait for the answer. ; -)

All kidding aside, the brace that runs diagonally across the fuel tank (under the passenger side) does not contact the tank itself and, more importantly, has a strip of foam padding that runs the length of the brace between it and the gas tank.

Thanks for checking!

I do have the foam pad in place though, but as I suspected the fuel tank is hanging to low for whatever reason.

I think i can hear this noise as well, only sometimes! I thought it was fuel swisshing around in the tank but I can clear some kind of clunk sometimes. Usually when I apply the brakes..

I just looked at mine.
The tank is resting on the foam pad that is on the top of the brace.
It almost looks like the brace is supporting the tank.

Bringing back an old thread. Were you able to get this fixed? Mine is doing the exact same thing. Sounds like it is coming from the trunk area but my guess is I have the same thing you mention.

I had the same sound coming from the back and I had the same reflex as for the possible sources but the dealer finally found the exact problem: ice forming in a the box (for noise dampering) between the headlight and the structure/body of the car. So, if you drive you car up north, it could be this. They fixed it by sealing the body so that water won't go in (and eventually formed ice). It sounded like if I had something in the tank.
