LCT being delayed

Hi guys. Not that it will help me (probably not, anyway), but I haven't seen any comments about this, so thought I'd make the post.

The changes to the LCT (Luxury Car Tax) are being delayed by the Opposition. They're sending that, the alcopops and some other increase to committee that will delay it's implementation until August or September.

So, if you're due for delivery in July or August, looks like you'll escape the increases! Woohoo for you!

:drinking: Have one for me, with a Sep/Oct delivery, huh?

Hey SimonB... It would be great to think its delayed & saves us a bit of coin, but I think that come July 1...the coalition loses traction with our jolly fine overfed friends in the Senate....point being even if its protested & the car industry kicks up a fuss about it now...it will still go through me thinks...as quickly as our portly little friends can push it through too

Yep...it may buy us a month or 2-3...& a few of us who take delivery during this time may slip under the radar...but anyone after that will be slugged with it.

The folks I feel for is the families who arent necessarily driving luxury cars...maybe they need a larger 4wd, wagon, or what ever...this Govt assumes that if you pay $57123 + for a vehicle...you can afford to contribute more... jeesh... a tax on a tax is LCT.
I will get off my soap box now

Hey, did you ask before sharing my soapbox? Totally agree with all you said. A minister must being buying a Lambo or something in July.

I was just trying to give those dads expecting a July/August delivery some hope and something to look forward to!

Oooops! True...1 on the soapbox at any 1 given time.
Im with you all the way.

Possibly 1 of the ministers are indeed taking delivery of a Lambo...a Maybach even!!! Theyre big enough to house their gargantuan egos...and portly, well fed, tax payer funded, torsos.

cool sounds like i may save some money!
my car is due to land late july, but have organised with the dealer to pick it up 2nd august cause i'll be away for a week or two. Having said that, and if the LCT comes in august will i escape the LCT if i can put down the money just before August?

Good question, jksgoh, who knows. :iono: I suspect it depends on the dealer and how much they're prepared to stretch the paperwork, registration etc. Ask 'em.

i think the LCT is calculated when the vehicle is registered and the plates are issued. If you wait for delivery you should be OK as long as you have it registered b4. worth checking though as it will be an expensive delay otherwise.

my car is due in july so the delay is welcome. this is the only time i can think of where red tape has saved me money!

I've been working with my dealer to formalise the sale prior to taking delivery as mine is due at the dealer on June 26th. Sounds like I don't have to push it so much now...still, i want it sooner rather than later!

Alcopops have gone up already, virtually overnight after they announced it. I don't think this will up for discussion by the committee.

I asked the Sales Manager at Dwyers virtually the same question last night (just out of interest). He explained that the car must be completely paid for (both you to the dealer, and the dealer to BMW), and the car physically driven off the lot before the cut off for LCT kicks in. This is the official line which suggets that even if you pay up early, you'll still get slugged with the higher LCT if you pick it up after the deadline. Maybe the dealer can organise something "unofficial" for you ...

Cool, I will be the first to apologise if I'm wro... ummm, inco... umm, mista... ummm, if I are not right .

Not worth fightning about anyway, it's the potential LCT increase delay that's important.

Hope your all correct. However, chances are I will have to pay the extra $2,700.00 LCT on anticipated 20 August delivery.

With the REX now sold I can no longer distract myself and the wait for my 135i is incredibly frustrating. Unfortunately our daily drive Ford Territory dosen't fill the need...

im just a bit confused as to when this new tax may come in. the wheels article says that the committee is required to report back to the senate by august 26th. does that mean the tax wont come in before then?

The M3 would be 110,000 aussie without the luxury car tax and 10% import duty. A more realistic price compared to the absolute rip off car prices we pay in Australia.
