Public tracks in NJ??
I was wanting to take my 135 to the track to get a chance to let it rip a bit without the worry of killing someone or getting a ticket or arrested for speeding on the open highways. I know nothing about how to go about finding a track that I can do this at. I googled a bit but am not sure if the places I found will let you come in off the street and use the track or what the rules are. Does anyone know of tracks in NJ or preferably in Central NJ that allow you to use the track? The one place I thought fit this was Wall Township Speedway but they closed down this March. Thanks for any info...

Join your local BMW CCA chapter, and get hooked up with a track day.

What are you interested in doing? If you are looking at drag racing there are many venues that encourage people to come in off the street. On the other hand, if you are interested in cornering, an autocross provides a fairly safe, controlled environment to learn about car control. If you are really interested in letting it rip, so to speak, I would steer clear of any free for all environment. There are plenty of events to choose from and you have to plan. NJ chapter of BMW http://www.njbmwcca.org/ has quite a few track events, PCA has events, Mazda club, Audi Club, TrackDaze -- all provide safe venues for you to exercise your car in a controlled environment. Within easy range of your location are Summit Point (WV), Watkins Glen, VIR, VIR, Pocono, and others. We call these events Driver's Schools - DE's for short. In the beginner groups you get an instructor to facilitate your learning experience. Believe me, these are not parade laps -- you will be driving your car just as fast as you can.

Yes after some searching I found this out also... just have to talk my wife into letting me go... she is just worried safety wise... anyone know if you have to wear a helmet at these types of events? I am looking at not just drag racing but doing the whole track thing... I am not thinking about quiting my day job or anything.. just want to have some fun and not sure just how to do it...

We are having an event at the Glen and not to far to go from Maryland and even closer to New Jersey -- three day event last weekend in June. it is a three day event and hotel costs would add something to your anticipated expenses; but, the Glen is a very fast track.
