I have used the search function and see that it’s been a while since the last posts re screens and that tech has moved on.

I have decided that a bigger screen will make me smile and since my entry nav unit won’t upgrade it would annoy me to fit an mmi box whilst having the six inch screen.

So I have looked and looked at U.K. suppliers and the costs vary immensely. For example a screen from Droid os around £420.00 but a similar looking one on eBay os £200 ish. Don’t get me wrong- I’m not looking to buy cheap and regret it but equally don’t want to spend more than I need to.

Since Brexit buying from abroad is expensive so looking at U.K. vendors.

Finally- I have watched as many YouTube videos as I can find re installing the screen and most of them don’t mention needing to use the aux connector in the arm rest. This pleases me as I don’t want to run a cable there. Can anyone confirm of this is the case.

make sure you don’t get a knock-off one. get the proper one by looking and reading the thread below.

keep in mind, the audio outta these screens are rather sh!t, so be prepared.

ya - the bigger screens are nice but these driods have a lot of problems.

i went with oem screen (8.8) and added mmi box and could not be happier.

That is exactly what I have decided. Another rabbit hole. Would you mind looking over my list ?

Upgrade oem screen- does any 8.8 screen fit? If not how do I go about knowing what to get.

Mmi box - I see there seems to be two types - one with hdmi and one without.

I’m sure my 2017 entrynav needs the one with the hdmi port.

provide me last 7 vin and i’ll let you know which screen to get as you need to get a screen that is compatible. can’t throw any 8.8 in there.

nah - you don’t need the hdmi port on headunit. you won’t even use the hdmi port on the mmi as that is for other types of cars. i’d recommend a carlinkit or andream mmi box.

you’ll need either bimmercode or esys to code in the change. some folks have issues with bimmercode and the display change and they have to use esys to fix it but others have no issues with bimmercode. it’s so hit/miss while esys is always 100%.
