Saw the 1 Convertible next to 325i coupe

Just at the dealership.

Next to the 325i the 1-series convertible (it was a 120i) does look a bit ugly, esp with the top up and from the rear view of the cars. Both were metallic saph. black. Also I can now see why they label the car as having a pot belly haha!

Interior-wise both were of comparable quality.

Much preferred the internal dimensions of the smaller 1 series.

Yeah I reckon it would. I forgot to mention that with the top down the convertible 1 actually looks quite sporty! Esp with its nicely raked windscreen.

I have read many negative opinions on the front of the 1 but I actually think the front looks great...especially the lights.

it is a very good looking car, specially when you get the 135 that comes standard with the M sports pack, for me it looks much better than the 3 series

Before I saw the cars in real life I was thinking the 3 series was better looking. Now that Ihave seen them in real life I think the 1 series coupe & convertible looks as good if not better than the 3 series.

the 3 coupe is outright gorgeous, the 1 coupe is by no means ugly, but not as nice as the 3 coupe. The 1 convertible however, turns more heads than the 3 convertible.

Agree the 3 coupe is gorgeous however, it looks gorgeous in an elegant kind of way. The 1 series coupe is gorgeous in a masculine kind of way.

Not sure "gorgeous" should be used as the adjective for "masculine". Not by a bloke. Not that there's anything wrong with that

The 3er coupé is a stunning car. Whilst I love my 135 coupé, in the looks stakes, the 335 wins every time.

Maybe its a bit like humans.

The 335 is a drop dead gorgeous woman, who gives you butterflies and makes you yearn whenever she walks past. (eg Woman in red- Matrix)

The 135 is a good looking, well-built bloke. You can appreciate his is attractive, BUT, you'd never, ever, go there. (eg Daniel Craig- New James Bond bloke)

Well, that is a nice comparison and I have to agree with you, the 135 is a he. A masculine car, I wonder how many woman have buy one of these, as far as I can see in this forum there is not a single woman, so I reckon it may be a very low percentage

I disagree, and I'm sure I'm in the minority.

I dislike the 335 coupe. The lines are all disjointed for me. The line at the bottom of the door does not flow to the rear section which does not flow on past the wheel arch. It creates a non biological, slightly man made picture.

On the other hand, I like the 135 coupe. All the lines on the car seem to flow from 1 part to another. It makes it look like something that can be found in nature and not man made.

Given the choice between the 2, I'd get the 335, sell it and get a 135, everytime. Or, add a bit more and just get a Cayman S instead

A couple of my staff happened to see a picture of the 1-series coupe as I was browsing the net. I didnt say I was interested in buying one etc....in fact I didnt say anything.

Both of them are girls in their mid-late 20's and they both said this 135i in Alpine White looked 'PRETTY' haha!

Then I decided to ask them their opinion on the 335i coupe...'MEAN' was the adjective they collectively used.

I was on a roll so asked them about the Z4 coupe....'HOT' and 'COOL' was their description.

Then just to test the validity of their opinions I showed them a picture of a Hyundai Accent: 'Yuk!' haha!

P.S. On organic, 'natural' design the TVRs cannot be beaten...exterior and interior! I love British sports cars' designs.

Is it still owned by that young Russian millionaire?

Like all organic beings, the TVR looks hot but bits still fall off them

Yeah, but it is still a car. We and them like cars for different reasons.

TVR, like most British sports cars, are very unreliable but have soul!

Yes the Russian still owns it.

I'll chime in on this, my dads got a 3 coupe, and i gotta admit it is one fine looking car.... i'll say it is far more elegant than the 1, while the 1 is blunt... but blunt in a masculine kind of way, and in a good way

Went for a test drive today at Northshore BMW. Have to say, it is a really good car. (I did stall the car a few times. Forgot that there is no auto clutch like the DSG box I have in my GTI. The clutch was really light and the take up point was very low down. (The last manual I drove months and months ago was the Porsche 964 with a really heavy clutch, and a take up point really high up. That's mu excuse and I'm sticking to it )

I'd love to not wait and order 1 straight away! MJair (from Vortex) came by as a passenger as well as a friend of mine. (She sat in the back)

Maybe because I was having to change gears and paying a lot of attention at what I am doing, but at higher speeds, my GTI felt a bit more stable although it did feel "less fun" (Don't want to incriminate myself as there was a BMW pulled over by the cops at the start of my test drive) Doing 1500rpms in 5th gear at 60kmh going uphill was a great experience though.

She mentioned that the rear was not a great place to be when I was mildly chucking it around. No rear armrest and/or grab handles either!

She also mentioned as far as she was concerned, the 135 was pretty but the 335 looks mean.

That said, she liked the 125 vert in champagne :iono:

Spent the rest of the day shopping with her

Yeah, my GTI felt a bit slow after that, but at least my friend was pretty excited too, so we were talking about the 135 instead of the usual stuff for a while

Forgot to mention, I preferred the seats in my GTI (cloth seats) a lot more as it felt a lot more figure hugging that the BMW ones. A couple of corners, I slipped a bit in the seat. It also felt like I was sitting on top of the car instead of being in it, and I think that I had the seat all the way down already. But then I feel like that in my GTI too and it's all the way down there too...

A bit slow, or a lot slower? I only ask because I'm wondering if I should trade in my GTI DSG for a 135i Step.
