Tirerack vehicle simulator now works

but none of the wheels they offer look nearly as good as the stock rims. what makes the 1 look good is its simple design...all these bling wheels make the car look terrible...like wearing a gold chain with some bling cross over a tux.

No offense, but this is old news...the simulator has been up since Tuesday. Not all of the wheels there are "bling" wheels. O.Z. Ultraleggeras and Volk RE30s are about as "anti-bling" as you can get.

yeah, I figured that my post wasn't breaking news - by no means am I on the top of the 1er news mountain.

I tried some of the OZ wheels, but they just didn't seem to look as good as the stock rims... maybe I just need to seem them in person.

I live in a city where owning a car is really pointless - public transpo is too good, parking is impossible, and bound to get 2 parking tickets a month...I always said that if I was going to buy a car, it would be for sheer enjoyment. Now that I've actually found one for pleasure purposes, I have a lot of things to catch up on, which is exactly why I'm here. :headbang:

No worries, man. It doesn't help that most of the wheels on Tirerack are bling wheels, especially considering the limited wheel selection for the 1er due to fitment constraints. It also looks like Tirerack's fitment options might be a bit conservative. For example, they list only one option from BBS, but in another thread, BBS emailed a member a list of about 7 or 8 wheels that will supposedly fit. Hopefully once people start experimenting with wheels on their own cars we'll start to see some additional wheel options opening up. Of course, there's always the tii concept wheels or the CSLs if you're into the OEM style.

yeah, I guess that comes with the territory of being the first to own the car...it's going to take a lot of trial and error...but, the upside to that is that our collective knowledge base should grow to take this car to the next level.

I'm generally not a fan of black wheels, but these looked so badass, IMO:

I think black wheels only look good and silver and montego blue, but that's just me...the O.Z. wheels look great.

I was actually thinking of buying both those sets! SSR for track and the 18's ultraleggera for road. But i can't work out the right tyre size for the 17s. Anyone can help? It has to be a size that has semi-slick tyres available.

This is the best wheel/tire calculator I've come across. It's come in quite handy a few times for me.

I haven't searched, so don't hate me, but who knows what the offset is on the stock wheels???

I'm still not sure what wheels/finish I should go for...

Leaning towards Volk RE30s in Ti Gunmetal with 18x8.5s in the back, and 18x8" in the front. Though, I'm unsure how that color would work with blue water, might go for silver instead.

I've been playing with the Tire Rack visualizer, but can't make up my mind. I might call and talk to Gill, see what he thinks.
