323i CDN Wheels
Hello All,
I will be picking my 323 up next week and of course it comes with some pretty basic wheels (although much better than hub caps). I was thinking of running them until the winter and then using them as my winter wheels. For all those who have 16incher's, what would you suggest for replacements. I was thinking of putting on the stock 325 rims since I could use the stock tires. 17inch is a possibility, but would I not have to upgrade the brakes? 18's are not an option as I live in a new suburb with construction all around. Too many potholes and nails, which could equal $$$ in tire replacement. Anyone know if the OEM 216 style is available in smaller rim sizes? Thanks |

I believe the 216's are available on the European models (320something), but I think you can order them from the dealer. The 162's are sick but I think my brakes will be under spec'ed - that is a lot more wheel to stop.

330i has got the same brakes as a 323i or 318d.. So that isn't the problem.. I should go for some 17" 161 or 18" 162, those are 325i sport pkg wheels so there must be enough around on ebay.. Because a lot of the US members go for after market wheels and sell there OEM wheels on ebay.
Good luck with it! |

Here in Canada the rear brakes for the 323 are Ventilated disc / 300, and the 330i has Ventilated disc / 336 on the (17's). Not really sure what this means on the grand scheme of things. Thanks for the replys. I would love to get 162

My 323i arrived 3 week ago here in Winnipeg. Although Winnipeg is know as pothole city, I had type 199s installed at the dealer when I took delivery. Next day I had Eibach prokit installed. My car has no problem stopping 19 inch rims and believe it or not my ride is smoother and softer than the stock 16 inch runflats.

Since the 323i is down on power relative to the 325 or 330, and there are not many 16" wheel options, I would recommend a nice light 17" wheel such as the BBS RK or OZ Ultraleggara. I know the BBS RK is a "plug and play" fitment, ie, the centrebore is the same as the OEM wheels, as is the offset, so there will be no problems whatsoever, and they are very light at less than 18lbs. each. These fitted with some 225/45R17 summer performance tires would be an excellent upgrade, and as you mentioned the 16" stock wheels would work well for the dreaded winters. |
