Fan Adjust in "Auto"

I'm wondering does the fan speed control for the X3 work the same as it did in our old X5, that is as follows:

Whatever you have the fan speed set to, lets say 50% for this example that's the highest the fan will ever run in "Auto". It will only go full if in MAX mode.

So (while still in Auto mode and 50% fan speed) if the car was hot, it would run at 50% speed for as long as it took to get to the set temp, once there the speed would now reduce to maintain.

Does the X3 operate the same way?

if you set the system to auto and not change the blower speed the climate control will adjust blower speed and blend doors to obtain the temp you set. if it's a cooler temp than the outside temp the vents will also be included with the temp control

if you press auto and change the blower speed it will operate the blend doors and vent control to obtain your desired temp.

Things are more complicated.
1. When the engine is cold, don't expect higher fan speed (for the first let's say a mile).
2. When the car is at rest, fan speed decreases (for you not to inhale a lot of fumes)
3. The (I think) 5 position knob will allow you to "moderate how much AUTO you want", respecting other points.
This is why I love BMW A/C.

Garage List
Even on auto 2/5, say, if it’s 90 degrees and the car is an inferno it will go full blast to cool the cabin down until you’ve reached a reasonable temperature.

Thanks all, sounds like from what everyone is saying, it doesn't work like the older X5. Actually looking forward to A/C that performs well. How ineffective the A/C was on the F15 X5 was a major complaint from almost everyone.

I have mine set on Auto with fan speed at 50%. I believe my fan blows at a faster speed if the car/weather is hot (not using MAX mode), but then slows back down to 50%. And then slows down more once the cabin temp has reached the set temp. In fact, sometimes the fan backs off too much and I feel stuffy, so have to reduce the temp setting to get the fan spinning again.
