Club Racing

Is anyone here a club racer? I saw a link to that on bmwcca.org and wanted to know what it as like.
Is it fun? expensive? time-consuming?

any insights would be interesting, ty!

I think there are - and to get more hits on this thread, let me move it to the newly formed 'racing forum'.

LOL. Longtime PCA club racer, set up like BMW racing except 10x the size :-)

I am on haitus in order to give full time to my kid's karting but when I return it will likely be with a real racecar eg spec racer ford or a formula car.
Pros of club racing:
comradarie, esprit d'corp of a single marque
13/13 no contact rules, (pros and cons, but mostly pros for us old guys)
stock classes are pretty close to spec racing which is nice

Cons:

Racing converted sedans is a very expensive way to go not that fast.
No real championship series that means anything
Tech isn't very serious (ie: lots of cheating)

Looking to get back into it. But, no, I didn't race! All my friends did, unfortunately I was not financially able to participate. But that does not mean I wasn't a member.

I think this is why the 135i sparks my interest so much. It's a calling from a younger year, that I have never been able to quench..!

7-8 months ago I was looking at Corvettes and the newer M3 coming. I was dead sure I was going to get the M, but still wanted to entertain the idea of the new Vette. Sorta of playing devil's advocate with myself. But I did touch on an a personal concern I had, whether or not I wanted to endure another high-revving engine again!

Never liked the newer 3 series, but this one'r has possibly ignited something within me!

Raced BMWs for 17 years. It's a blast. It can be expensive if you don't work on your own car. It can be time consuming if you do work on your own car. It can also be very rewarding and you meet some great people.

Like all racing, the time and expense are almost directly associated to how hard you push it. If you hammer the car on ever corner in every lap, it will be very expensive to maintain and the tire cost will be huge.

Basically if you want to be on the podium, plan on spending more time and money. If your looking to have a great time and a lot of fun and winning is not everything, then it is not that too bad and a hell of a lot of fun to just be out racing.

To sum up what Templedogg said, "How do you make a small fortune racing? Start with a large fortune."
