Aftermarket GPS with back-up camera?
I do not want the factory navigation and idrive.
I have searched, but it doesn't appear that any of the portable GPS companies make a unit with a wireless back up camera option. A rear license plate mounted wireless camera powered by the reverse light would be ideal. Put the car in reverse, the camera is powered up, the GPS unit detects the wireless camera, puts the view on screen and voila, you see behind you. Anyone know of such a thing? |

Dunno if this helps, but this chap on bimmerfest integrated a Garmin 7200, and claims to be working on adding a rear camera to that install. I've posted pictures of his install before (hoping we'd get the bin on the dash instead of the nav, if you opted to not order nav)...

the only way that would work is if IDRIVE has another video input, if it does than it would just be simple to hook it up via some coaxial cables, but you would have to switch to the camera every time you put the car in reverse. It would not be automatic.
