1-series hatchback spotted in California... what does it all mean??

This photo was taken in the San Francisco Bay area with distributor plates...

I wonder what this indicates, if anything about the 2-series coupe/convertible coming to the US :iono: Could this just be a 2-series test mule in 1-series clothing ? Will a 1-series hatchback (if any) arrive before the 2-series (if any). C'mon BMW give us some news or clues

BMW is really holding their cards close to the vest on this- Why would a 1-series pop up in S.F.? Maybe a U.S. ad campaign? I'm with LonghornTX-
the wait...and lack of info and photos is frustrating

BMW supervisory board have already vetoed against hatchback introduction to the US market. There is no market for the hatchback in the US market.

If it were warm weather testing, they'd be in Phoenix, not San Diego. Unless of course it's on the way to Phoenix...anyone know the location/existence of any BMW "proving ground" facilities? I know Nissan has a facility in/near the PHX area.

why do they tease us so bad. there has to be other places in the world they can test cars. A 1 series 5 door hatch would be perfect for my wife.
