About to buy a 420D Xdrive gran coupe 2022

Hi guys,

I’m about to buy a 420d x drive gran coupe 2022. Pretty excited. It has the technology pack and it’s an msport. My only question is it doesn’t mention it has a heated steering wheel. I’ve reserved the car.

Just wondering could anyone let know if I could add this to the car later with the OTA upgrade bmw offers?

I should imagine if it has the hardware (heated wheel button) but currently doesn't work, then most likely will be able to subscribe/buy the option.

Have you punched the reg in on the Connected drive store to see what options are available to activate?

I'm not sure when the subscription based functions kicked in, but 2022 sounds about right.

Nice car. I drove a 21 plate recently and it's a good steer A little firm and thumpy for my tastes but I can see the appeal. Gotta love the pillar less doors and the seat belt butler

ConnectedDrive store doesn’t allow you to view what upgrades are available as it sends a code to the car when trying to add car. I have the vin number but it won’t let me add the car to the connect drive store page bc it won’t to send a code to the car before adding it.

All I bloody want to check is what upgrades I can do ota 😭

You're not wrong, but unfortunately it makes good business sense as it simplifies production. Make one version of the seats and steering wheel and those who want heating, can pay for it after the fact instead of ticking an option box upfront.

I was browsing subscriptions on connected drive out of curiosity, and IIRC, to 'unlock' the seat heating 'for life' was about £500, otherwise 20 odd quid a month rolling.

How does that 500 quid compare to the previous business model of paying upfront on the build sheet? I've never bought a brand new BMW, so just curious.

What would be funny is if someone bought the car and chose not to use the subscriptions for say, 5 years, then decided to subscribe....the seat heaters had failed through lack of use

Just check if the button is there? Surely if the control button is present then it is either currently working or can be upgraded to work? Just check if the button is there?

So yet more big brother tactics which i dont like , I specified heated seats on my 1st E46 330ci back in 2003, they were £300, in my mind thats the cost to enable the function (looms etc all present), only difference now is they have tech to do it remotely, personally I think the models sucks
