Question Just bought 06 330xi... items missing

Hi all... just bought an 06 330xi... great car, but not so great dealership. amongst many other things, they are claiming that my car should NOT have come with the following items: Spare key, emergency triangle, medical kit. They claim these are only for european models, which may or may not be true... if it isn't, is there any way to prove to them that these items should've been included? they are all mentioned in the manual. Thanks guys!

Soooooo you got ONE key with your car, that's absolutely not right. I'm unsure about the triangle and medical kit. You should certainly have two keys though.

The dealer was correct. It is illegal to drive a car in Germany without a triangle and a med kit. Thus, they have to include them for ED but not for US-direct vehicles so as a cost savings they do not. I assume by spare key you mean the "wallet key" and not a 2nd full function key. The wallet key was done away with as well.

On another note, in France, you are required to have a silly reflective traffic vest in your car.

Where did you get your car?

there should be a second key, but my car didn't come with the emergency triangle or a first aid kit either
i believe they are correct in that it is only standard in the European market or if you did Euro delivery

You aren't missing those items. BMW intentionally does not ship them to US bound vehicles. For $40.00 Costco has an amazing car kit with everything you could possibly need in your trunk. Alternatively, you can buy the BMW kits at amazingly bad prices online or at the dealer.

If you have 2 real keys you are fine as well. The wallet key does not exist anymore for any of the cars. Neither does the glovebox led light (also included in the Costco kit).

What dealership was so crummy that you didn't believe them on this? I want to know who to stay away from.

I got only one key when I picked up the car. My CA ordered the second one and programmed everything for me (comfort access). I don't have the vallet key though, I think it's fine with me. I think triangle and medical kit are only for EU models (I might be wrong). I just got it couple weeks ago (330xi with stick and I love it!) Where did you get your car?

+1, the Costco kit is awesome and a must need for any car.

Ok, No you should not get the med kit or emergency triangle. Yes, you should get 2 keys, a valet key and fob to insert valet key and flashlight in the glovebox. All of those items were included in ALL 2006 model 3 series.

The dudes saying that the valet key and flashlight don't come with the car all have newer versions where they aren't included. But they are in fact included in ALL 2006 325i/xi and 330i/xi.

If you want a picture of all the items I can do so tomorrow. I say this all with 100% certainty because I have them and my Dad has a 2006 330i and has all of them as well.

Valet keys are built into the electronic key fob (they slide out). This was the case for the 2006 3er as much as for newer ones. There has never been a separate valet key, regardless of year.

For MY2006, your car came with two electronic key fobs and a plastic emergency (wallet) key (plus the plastic fob which resides in the glove compartment).

If your car was delivered in Munich, it would also have come with the triangle and FA kit. If it was delivered in the U.S., it would have have come with those items.

thanks for the quick replies guys... darkcloud, very good to know, we'll push to get that vallet key.

the dealership was park ave bmw in paramus nj... don't get me wrong, our sales rep was actually really nice... it's their service department that's pretty much crap... it was a certified pre owned... all the manuals were missing, the service check list mentioned the washer fluid level was checked, it was empty when we got it, light was on... tires were in bad shape even tho they said they met the requirements, front pass tire's sidewall gave out a week after purchase (no nail or anything)... passenger side headlight was significantly higher than the driver's (was getting flashed alot)... they said it was by design and made no adjustment... i know it's supposed to be higher, but it was simply misaligned... the horn wouldn't work when we got it, took it in, fixed it, and now we have a light for malfunctioning steering lock... car didn't come w/ 2nd key, they said it'll take two weeks, we came in for service 2 weeks later, and told them about the key before handing in the car, they acknowledged the need...when we picked up the car they didn't give us the 2nd key, we asked what happened, they said oh we need to speak to a different department, we don't handle that... why couldn't they say that initially!!

anyways, i don't wanna bitch too much ; )... these things happen, but it was just their attitude and how they were giving us the run around on alot of concerns. neways, thanks again guys!

They should get you the second key, it's their job. My CA ordered the second one for me no question to ask. They don't get you the owner manual? That's very bad. Anyway, you can download online when you register on bmw website. Oh, if you get the second key, make sure your CA (sale) program that key for you (If you have comfort access). Well, if you get a customer survey (both from bmw or dealer), just complain them. Good luck

I got the exact car (2006 330xi) and got two keys AND the wallet key. Oh, I have the flashlight too but I'm not using it because I have the power cord plugged in instead.

Initially, they couldn't find the second key and the owners manual so they ordered me one free of charge. GO DEMAND FOR THE SECOND KEY!

No triangle or med kit though.

Wallet key does not = valet key.

Just remove the mechanical key from the fob, then the fob becomes the valet key - that is if you turn the trunk switch off in the glove box and lock it.

Oh, I didn't know about that. So I don't have wallet key then. But I can live without it. I got everything else though.

If the car is certified - you are absolutley entitled to a second key. Go ask them to make you one/give you one.

If the car is not certified, they give you what they got and if they dont got it they wont give it.

I meant the wallet key. If you read my post you would have realized that.

That's what I understood the OP to be missing as well.

Direct quote from my own post...
Quote:
a valet key and fob to insert valet key
So I called it the wrong name big deal so was the OP and no ones getting all BMW name nazi on him, but the wallet key is the item he is indeed missing.

BTW, I've never once used the wallet key in almost 3 years with the car. You're not really missing much. Other then an obnoxiously large black plastic key(that doesn't even fit in a wallet comfortably) and is a half size longer then most keys looking all goofy on your key ring

As jpsum just wrote

Quote:

Since there is a valet key (built into the electronic fob), using the correct term is somewhat important to avoid confusion to someone is new to the E90 environment and trying to sort out what he should and should not have for his car.

Regardless, the wallet key can be important - even if you haven't used it (it fits nicely in the little zipper pocket in my wallet btw). It's a kind of insurance. Even though BMW can remotely unlock my car, if I don't have the key, I won't get very far. I know that it's not included on some new models but it did come on my new 550i.

I agree...I'm not even sure where I've put it, come to think of it. The concept was good but the reality, not so.
