Semi-truck recaps...
There should be a law banning semi-trucks and trailers from being allowed to use recap tires.
Wife hit one last night.... took out all the belly pans, broke several coolant lines, lower grills, fog light, inner fender and bumper. Tractor trailer was no where to be found.... |

Ugh. That sucks. The coolant line that I suspect was broken is the one that runs along the front subframe? That's the expensive one. :-(
What's your insurance situation? Comprehensive with a sufficiently low deductible I guess could provide some relief. |

I carry full coverage... with all the crazies running around without insurance these days, I can't afford not to. And this is one of those situations. There aren't any truckstops anywhere close to where this happened (nearest one is 55 miles), so finding a truck missing a tire shouldn't have been hard. VSP didn't even bother. To add insult to injury... I had just done the OFHG and did a complete coolant replacement very recently. |

WOW... have prices of E90s dropped so much that a few little repairs warrant the insurance company trying to force us to send it to the scrap yard?
I'm smelling rotten fish... |

I do think that values for E90s have dropped, but realistically, your car with that number of miles is probably valued at under $7K. The last time I had to have a bumper, grill, headlight and painting done on mine (inattentive driver floored it in reverse out of her driveway directly in front of me) the insurance company came in at around $6K to repair. That was maybe 5 years ago. I'd expect they'd try to total it if I had the same amount of damage repaired now. Which is pretty scary to me.
Fortunately, I expect you can work something out with them this time, and the repairs are not in fact as serious as the insurance company wants. You could fix that in a day in the driveway (getting the bumper painted ahead of time). Let us know how it turns out. Good luck with the battle. |

Since I really don't trust any body shop from just firing up the car to move it even with no coolant in the engine....
