Selector lever malfunction: Not possible to change gear position.

2012 BMW 328i with 4 cylinder turbo engine and automatic transmission. No lights on the shifter and getting this message below and cannot put the car into Forward or Reverse. Changed out the shifter with a supposedly good used one and no change. All of the fuses that are know to cause power to the shifter and transmission control were checked and are good. Any ideas on what to check next? Currently the car is stuck in park in the garage.

Selector lever malfunction:
Not possible to change gear position.
Consult nearest service center.

Now google each, prefaced with BMW, as in 'BMW CF1701'. That will point the way to other's experiences with the same problem, and hopefully a fix.

The GWS is redundant by being included both in the PT-CAN(1) and PT-CAN2 buses. I had one bus fail (PT-CAN(1) and still was able to shift and drive.

Some folks also had issues with LEDs being blown in the selector, but unlikely that is the cause.

First eliminate any power and ground issues. I recommend that you check your GWS connector with a multi-meter for power and ground. Make sure you have a good ground. Check the Wake up Signal. Then check with an Ohm-meter the resistance between PT-CAN(1) High and Low and PT-CAN2 High and Low. You should get around 60 ohms. Let us know, amd we go from there...

This thread may give you some clues where to look:

Good day!

I have absolutely the same problem on my G20 320D xDrive.
My car stated that gear selection is not possible and told me to visit the nearest service center.

Later on, I discovered that I'd parked in a little bush with ANTS. I think they could cause a problem inside the gear switcher board. Is there a scheme I could use to check?

Some pics:

Error Codes:
https://i.ibb.co/f8MRnJk/IMAGE-2023-06-22-22-20-32.jpg

802692 - Hall Sensor First
802694 - Hall Sensor Twice
804415 - Radio control (I have it unplugged)
CD95FE - wrong signal (state of gear switcher 197h)
CF3101 - Signal (control of gear switcher)

Any help would be appreciated
