BMW Art Car World Tour - Los Angeles 02/12 to 02/14/2009

The BMW Art Car World Tour has appeared at major museums around the globe since September 2006. Now it is arriving in Los Angeles for a limited-engagement, two-week visit.

We invite you to view four classic BMW Art Cars, each painted by one of the greatest painters of the 20th century – Andy Warhol, Frank Stella, Robert Rauschenberg and Roy Lichtenstein.

The beautiful grounds of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art provide the perfect backdrop for these “rolling sculptures.”

Dates: February 12 – 24, 2009
Location: Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA)
5905 Wilshire Boulevard
Los Angeles, CA

About BMW Art Cars
The idea of the BMW Art Car was born in 1975, when art auctioneer and racing driver Hervé Poulain entered the 24-hour Le Mans race for the first time. Seeking a link between the worlds of art and racing, Poulain asked his friend, artist Alexander Calder, to paint his 480-hp BMW 3.0 CSL. The result was so remarkable, BMW decided to continue this collaboration. Today there are 16 BMW Art Cars by prominent artists, from 10 countries spanning five continents.

Admission should be the usual LACMA fee. I'm sure they cut a deal to help the museum and have the cars shown on the grounds.

I think the second Tuesday of each month are free to LA County residents.

After 5 pm, it's "pay as much as you wish." Otherwise, $12 and $8 for students.

If you're on BMWNA's mailing list you'll get this announcement in your email.

My son had to go there yesterday for a school project. The admission fee was $12 for adults and $8 for students as stated above. However, the parking fee at their lot across the street was $20!

I suggest we get a group together and carpool. We can even get a group rate for admission price, perhaps. If enough people are interested, I can check into it.

$20 for parking? Damn. Your kid got burned on that. It's $8 at the Page at the tar pits up the street and they allow LACMA parking. And it's only $7 at the garage on 6th.

fwiw, if you go in the evening or early in the morning there's usually street parking by the tar pits. There's also street parking off Wilshire east of Fairfax.

But the best thing is to also go to Petersen's across the street where they charge $8 for really convenient parking. Plus you can see all the cool cars there, too. ($10 adults and $5 students.)

If Johnies was still open you could have lunch in the same place The Big Labowski was filmed (and a million other movies), but they're closed and now it's just a movie set.

Wifey took him there. Her criteria for parking selection is usually linked to the number of steps she has to take to get to the place she's going
