Oil Additives.
I was thinking about adding an oil additive to my 335xi engine. anyone else use an additive? i don't change my on oil, and recently had 1st warranty oil change. so w/ the level full, i don't want to over fill. is there any way to add to the engine oil w/out removing the drain plug, and take out a qt, before adding a qt. of an oil additive.
thank ahead of time for your thoughts, and ideas. |

my dad is an old drag racer and had a great sponsorship with lucas oil before he retired. we have cases of all sorts of racing oil, racing oil additives, racing transmission fluid, etc. piled up in the garage. my dad has been putting it through all of our daily drivers, weekend cars, and shifter karts for years now. nothing makes my car happier then a bottle of lucas high performance 70wt racing oil and some lucas pure synthetic stabilizer. expensive stuff but bar none to any oil you will find in a pep boys or factory dealership.

What do you expect to gain by putting in additives. You could actually void your warranty. IMHO, a REAL 100% synthetic oil will give you as much protection as your engine needs. BTW, all oils touted as being "Full synthetic" are actually 1005 synthetic

Thanks Dr GP !
you make a great point where as the BMW gets Synthetic oil f/ the dealer at it's scheduled changes. i didn't know if those additives did any good. i thought they must, if they sell so many. my motive was to do the best i could do for the BMW engine. i think the only thing i might change is have the oil changed a little more often. i just have the 1 yr service completed 2 months ago, and i won't wait for the next full year to do it again. don't know when the dealer will do the next service since i really fall short of the milage requirement. 8000 the 1st year and will probably duplicate it again for this year.
thanks for the advise. that's what makes this forum great. bouncing your ideas off of other BMW enthusiasts. |

I would suggest doing 1 mid year oil change. ANY full synthetic oil should easily go 5-7.5K and still protect your engine. Oil is cheap. Change it often . But no need to change it if it is still working as designed.
