I wouldn't do it, XI is supposed to be non-staggered. With that said, you might be able to get away with it, but I don't know for sure.

Polar bears are great. I figured out how to avoid them by running the wider tire on the front. Did the trick!

Cool. Then, you should have no problems. See below (starting with post #11):

Why does this wrong information keep coming up over and over? Yes, staggerd is OK on an xi. Overal diameter front to back is what matters. See the "polar bear" thread for the most recent discussion.

?

My 2009 e92 335xi coupe came stock like this from Munich, so YES!

225/30-18 front and 255/35-18 rear. Only issue are the damn Bridgestone runflats that I'm trying to kill as fast as possible - helped along the way currently with a JB3 and a nice long push of the DTC button ...

Do some people here not realize that some xi's came STOCK with staggered wheels/tires? Do a little research. Like offthewall said, the only thing that matters is the overall diameter of the tires, not the width!

I thought the xi's came with 225/45R17 wheels all around. Did the xi's with the Sport Package have staggered wheels on them?

Mine came with them as well, I don't get why people keep asking this...

I think people get confused about tire width and the different tire diameters that could hurt AWD systems. As long as the rolling diameter of the tires are about the same in all corners, as in very small difference such as .1 inch or so, the width does not matter. What you don't want to do is having a larger diameter tire in the back that would rotate at a totally different rate than the front tires.

The factory tires 225 front and 255 rear on the XI are both 25inch diameter.
