take it to the dealer, and use that warranty.

that is, unless you chipped the car and owned yourself

Answer the question or don't post anything. I don't need to hear your opinion regarding my personality. If you bothered to read my post, I did take it to the dealer and they have no clue.

The car is there right now but I don't have high hopes on a proper diagnosis.

where did you go? I dont like North Haven, had lots of bad experience.

I Always goto Hartford (New Country BMW) Better service there , they treat people with respect and dont Bullsh!t around. They have a very good reputation to maintain.

I think they are good as well but I don't know how they can diagnose something intermittent.

sounds like a misfiring cylinder? i.e. one of the cylinders has gone bad/broken. No big deal.

I've heard RWD cars with very aggressive clutch type differentials making clunk/banging sounds on certain occasions (most often going in reverse in a parking lot) because of the plates slipping/unlocking.. I could see how that noise could be related to the center diff, but I am 100% speculating at this point.

Get it documented in the BMW dealer's system that you had this complain and that the techs couldn't replicate it, so you have a record of prior action in case it comes up again

good luck
